The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX - The Most Powerful Production Pickup Ever Built
The headline says it all. The 2021 Ram 1500 owns the title of the most powerful, production half-ton pickup ever built. Got it. End of story. Now that we have this superlative out of the way, let's take a closer look at this amazing truck.
Can you please explain the "most powerful production truck" part?
The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX is powered by Mopar's famous Hellcat engine. Released in the Challenger and Charger SRT models in 2015, the Hellcat is a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that puts out 702 horsepower (TRX version) and offers 650 lb-ft of torque. Can we say it again? It's the most powerful engine available in a production truck.
As you might imagine, with this sort of power, the TRX is capable of posting some impressive speed numbers. And it does. The TRX travels from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds and 0-100 mph in 10.5 seconds -pretty fast stuff. At the drag strip, the TRX launches down the quarter mile in just 12.9 seconds at 108 mph.
Nice, but is the TRX good off-road?
Yes, they made it fast but the engineers at Ram wanted to establish world records with the TRX off-road too. Starting with months of analysis of the best desert racing vehicles they could find, they designed an extreme, off-road-capable suspension system for the TRX.
Let's start with the frame. The TRX uses a fully-boxed, high-strength steel frame with low torsion characteristics for stability and durability. It incorporates forged aluminum front upper and lower control arms and is designed for optimum caster and camber angles during suspension cycling.
The TRX is also outfitted with new front and rear 2.5-inch Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive performance shocks provide fast reaction time, superior damping and excellent heat dissipation.
Mid-ships, the folks at Ram equipped the TRX with an all-new BorgWarner transfer case with a specially beefed-up internal gear set. In the rear, the TRX uses a Dana 60 solid rear axle with full-floating hubs and axle-hop damper for excellent axle control off-road. An electronic locking rear differential is standard for increased performance when precise traction is needed.
And for rubber? TRX rolls on a set of massive 35-inch off-road tires mounted on 18-inch wheels that contribute to the truck's 11.8 inches of ground clearance.
What kind of technology does the TRX have inside?
Climb inside and you'll find the TRX offers all the technology of the finest current luxury vehicles. Starting with the infotainment system, the 12-inch UConnect 4C touchscreen system is state-of-the-art. Not only does it offer seamless smartphone integration thanks to Apple Carplay and Android Auto, it also features built-in turn by turn navigation. An all-new available head-up display even allows you to see up to five content areas projected up on your windshield.
Also, the 2021 RAM 1500 TRX is chock full of safety technology. Thanks to more than 100 active and passive safety and security features, you can trust that the 2021 RAM TRX will keep you and your passengers safe and sound.
