Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit managed by the Department for Work and Pensions. The money is issued to help with extra living costs for those eligible.
To claim the benefit, you should have a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability as well as difficulty doing certain everyday tasks or getting around because of your condition. PIP claims can still be made if the person is working, has savings or is getting most other benefits.
The benefit claim is divided into two parts - a daily living part which is given to help with everyday tasks and a mobility part which is given to assist the claimant with getting around.

Whether you get one or both parts and how much you get depends on how difficult you find everyday tasks and getting around. There is a 'lower' and 'higher' rate outlined by the DWP.
Those who claim PIP are also set to benefit from the one-off £150 cost of living payment from the Government. The sum had originally been supposed to start arriving on Tuesday, September 20.
But many claimants say they've still not had the money - and some don't know of anyone who has. The DWP has now admitted that the new bank holiday announced after the death of the Queen has had an impact on payments.

How much is PIP per month?
The amount a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claimant receives depends on how difficult they find every activities and mobility.
For those who find everyday activities difficult, the lower weekly rate is £61.85 and the higher rate is £92.40. For those who have difficultly with mobility, the lower weekly rate is £24.45 and the higher weekly rate is £64.50.
Although the payments are divided into weekly award amounts, the benefit is usually paid every four weeks. To find out the exact amount claimants can expect to receive, they should refer to their decision letter.
The letter provides details of the date of first payment, what day of the week payments will be made, how long the PIP will be awarded and when (or if) the claim will be reviewed.
When you will get the £150 cost of living payment
What this means is there are a number of payment possibilities. These are as follows:
First payment window
- Last week - Tuesday, September 20 to Friday, September 23 (some people)
Second payment window
- This week - Monday, September 26 to Friday, September 30 (most people)
Third payment window
- Next week - Monday, October 3 to Friday, October 7 (any remaining eligible people should have been paid at this point)

The DWP might contact you and offer to pay it in instalments. This can be helpful if you have difficulty managing money. However, it is your choice whether you want the money as a lump sum or in instalments. PIP is usually paid every four weeks.
