As a parent, I am strongly against the long school hours. Most schools start at 8:30am and end at 3:30pm, and when you add in the time it takes to get to and from school on the bus, it can mean getting up as early as 7:45am and not returning home until 4:30pm. This leaves little to no time for students to have fun, play, and spend time with their families.
The amount of homework that students are expected to do in these schools is also a cause for concern. With such long hours, the students are often left with little to no time to complete their homework and this can lead to a lot of stress and anxiety.
Moreover, the long hours can take away from the quality of education that students are getting. With such long hours, students are often tired and not able to give their full attention to the lessons. This means that they are not getting the best education possible. It is also important to consider the health of the students. With such long hours, students are not getting the proper amount of physical activity and exercise. This can lead to a variety of health issues such as obesity, diabetes, and other physical ailments. Finally, long school hours can also lead to a feeling of isolation and loneliness for students.
With such long hours, it can be difficult for students to make friends and socialize. This can lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. In conclusion, long school hours are not beneficial for students and should be avoided. They can lead to a variety of negative consequences both academically and mentally. It is important to ensure that school hours are not too long and that students have enough time to have fun, play, and spend time with their families.

Long school hours are detrimental if all children do during school time is only academic. However in forward thinking schools where the time includes specialist lessons like PE, art , music , library and free play time , it is in fact beneficial. Children get all they need for their hoslistic development in one place. Also, homework if designed well is a consolidation of learning and not additional work.
