That's an ABS-only test, which isn't surprising that BMW leads a very small field. Many non-ABS bikes can beat that.

especially in cold/wet conditions......the only part I agree with..emergency.......I would agree there too to some extent.
other than that there is no way an abs equipped bike will stop quicker when ridden by an accomplished rider.

Those are some nice brakes, alright. However, even best-in-the-world brakes won't be worth jack if you are not paying attention and/or have poor reaction time.

I dont find that any suprise. I have been riding BMW's for years and I have ridden may other bikes. Its no suprise, the BMW brakes are superb and have seemed alot stronger than anything else I have used with a whole lot less effort. However, best stopping distance dry in a controlled area? Hmmm, that may be pushing it. ABS is meant for increased control has been proven that it can reduce stopping distances in dry perfect controlled tests. However, Define the best brake? To me a good set of brakes are not about sheer stopping distance in dry controlled situations. Its about control when I need it the most, in an emergency, or when its wet out. The BMW brakes are easy to use, stop the bike very well and has ABS and the ABS is very un-obtrusive. Also, lets not forget that stopping distance in dry conditions is a reslt of many factors. Tires, bike weight, balance of weight, etc.....

I can't remember if it was in MCN or Bike magazine, but I remember reading a piece saying that the best brakes they'd ever tested were on the Triumph Speed Triple. However, under optimum conditions, the K1300S took about a metre (around three feet for the metrically challenged) more to stop from 60 mph.
The commentary said that under perfect conditions they'd found that ABS brakes were slightly slower to stop, and that naked bikes tended to scrub speed slightly faster.
So maybe the K1300R is the granddaddy when it comes to stopping. Andy Downes thinks so.

Why not show dry condition stopping too, since that's when most people ride anyways.

I concur. Most US magazines don't include braking results, but Motorcycle Consumer News does.
I've noticed that a lot of their performance #s have degraded over the last couple years, so I'm wondering if they are using a different test rider or testing equipment?

Only a pro would be able to beat an ABS version of a bike (in stopping distance) with a non ABS one (same bike). And it has been proven thta it isn't very repeatable. You don't get 10 tries when you encounter loose gravel spilled in front of you midcorner.Honda proved this by having a pro rider do back to back tests on their ABS and non ABS equipped CBR600's early this yr, and he finally beat his 1st ABS stop after 6 tries on the non ABS one. By less than half a foot, and then he couldn't do it again. This was dry conditions.
In the wet it was no contest, and the rider openly admitted that he couldn't come close to as controlled and short a stop in the wet.
