Minecraft is well known for many things, such as its unique, blocky graphics and art style, as well as its challenging boss fights and combat strategies. However, despite the huge amount of variety on offer in the game and the endless opportunities for adventure, many players know and love this ever-popular sandbox game for one thing: the mobs.

Mobs in Minecraft are creatures that occupy the land, caves, and sea. Some of the mobs in Minecraft are hostile and ready to harm the player, while others are passive and can be kept as pets. Mobs have become one of the most beloved features of the sandbox game, with new updates even having community votes on which unique mob is to be added into the game next.
With 77 mobs and many more to come in future updates, players often get caught up focusing on the larger, more powerful, creatures. However, a handful of mobs are much smaller than the player's 1.8 block height. Although easily overlooked (quite literally, in some cases), the smallest mobs in Minecraft continue to thrive around the game's sandbox world.
6 Baby Chicken (0.35 Blocks)

One of the first small mobs to ever be included in the game was the baby chicken. Likewise, the adult chicken was one of the very first mobs to ever be implemented into the game, alongside sheep and cows, making the baby variant one of the oldest small mobs still remaining in the current version of Minecraft.
The baby chicken stands at a squat .35 blocks, making it considerably smaller than the regular adult chicken. Their small size and light-footed speed make them relatively hard to control, especially when it comes to fencing in several newly bred baby chickens.
5 Pufferfish (0.35 Blocks)

Pufferfish are an aquatic mob that not many players run into in-game, as it's relatively rare to come across these mobs, particularly for those who don't enjoy exploring the treacherous oceans in Minecraft. Pufferfish spawn exclusively in warm, lukewarm, and deep lukewarm ocean biomes.

When they aren't fully puffed up, these poisonous, sometimes lethal, mobs stand at the same height as the baby chicken: .35 blocks. They're small and hard to spot, making them a real poisonous threat for players who are casually swimming through the ocean.
4 Silverfish (0.30 Blocks)

Silverfish have been wriggling around Strongholds protecting the famed End Portal since Minecraft 0.9. These squat, bug-like mobs are irritating at the very least and downright lethal in swarms. Thankfully, they only spawn in very specific locations, meaning that players won't have to deal with them very often.
These small mobs stand at approximately .30 blocks high, making them .5 blocks smaller than mobs like the baby chicken and pufferfish. Because of their ridiculously small height and hostile nature, they're incredibly tough to land hits on and thus very difficult to fight in hoards.
3 Endermite (0.30 Blocks)

Endermites were implemented rather recently, only being added as part of Minecraft 1.8, "The Bountiful Update." These hostile mobs are rare to come across, only having the chance to spawn in after the player throws an Ender Pearl. Not only are they rare, but they're also hard to see, as these elusive mobs stand at a measly .30 blocks tall.

Endermites are considered the smallest hostile mob in Minecraft, even though it's the same height and width as the silverfish, but it beats out the squirming hostile mob due to its short, stubby length. That said, the two mobs are often compared to one another, as they share the same movement animation and audio files.
2 Baby Turtle (0.12 Blocks)

Up until the recent release of version 1.19, "The Wild Update," the smallest mob in Minecraft was the baby turtle. The adult variant will grow up to be quite large, taking up more space with the width of their shells than they do height-wise. However, when a baby turtle is newly hatched, it only stands at a tiny .12 blocks tall.
This small height makes it easy to lose track of these baby turtles, especially if there are thin blocks of carpet or snow placed in the area where the baby turtle has been hatched. As a result, players may want to consider placing a fence around the area just to make sure that no baby turtles get lost.
1 Tadpole (0.08 Blocks)

As of the most recent update, tadpoles are the smallest mob in Minecraft. These tiny aquatic mobs will grow up into one of the three frog variants based on which biome they were hatched in, but, while they're swimming around and waiting to grow up, they're rather tiny and very difficult to spot.
Tadpoles stand at the squat height of .08 blocks tall, making them smaller than even the baby turtle. Luckily, unlike baby turtles, tadpoles will not be targeted and attacked by a variety of hostile mobs, making them much easier to raise into adulthood than their fellow tiny Minecraft mob.
