What is the MSCI World Index?

The MSCI World is an international stock index that tracks stocks from 23 countries. These are stocks of large- and mid-cap companies in developed countries with stable economies. At the time of writing (August 2022), the index tracks 1540 different companies.

US stocks make up the largest share of the MSCI World index. More than 68% of the stocks in the index come from this country. With more than 6% of the stock mix, Japan ranks second, followed by the UK with more than 4%. In terms of sectors, technology takes the lead, representing 21% of the stocks in the mix. Healthcare (14%) and financial services (13%) rank second and third, respectively.

Why invest in MSCI World ETFs?

With an MSCI World ETF, you are betting on the growth of the global economy. The committee that manages the index deliberately only selects shares from countries that have a stable economy. The total expense ratio (TER) of MSCI World ETFs ranges between 0.12% and 0.50% per year. These costs are usually significantly lower than those of a managed investment fund.
