Disney is entering a very difficult period in the company's history. Off the back of its 100th anniversary and a year of hits and flops at the box office, the studio is going to need to readjust. 2024 has been and will continue to be hugely influential for the brand, and part of the company's strategy is to boost interest in the Disney+ streaming service. Some major shows are hitting Disney+ this year, all of which should connect with audiences on a personal level.

Audiences have to feel they are getting their money's worth from the streaming platform, especially as consumers begin to drop unnecessary costs in their lives. Thus far, Disney+ has been hugely defined by Marvel Studios and LucasFilm and while that will continue in 2024, there are some other projects which will hopefully demonstrate that the platform has so much more to offer.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians Will Continue to Build a Franchise

One of Disney's most intelligent choices in recent years was to go back to a franchise that had already failed on the big screen. There's a lot of potential in Rick Riordan's mythological novels and Disney attempted to adapt Percy Jackson in a more faithful capacity. Fans of the source material were thrilled by the show's first season..

Rick Riordan's universe is so rich and detailed and there's ample room to expand in future seasons. with the series already renewed for Season 2. Disney+ needs a family-friendly fantasy series akin to Harry Potter to drive subscriptions, and Percy Jackson could be exactly what it's looking for. The underrated hit is well worth watching.

Monsters at Work Is a Nostalgic Sequel Show

Monsters, Inc. is still one of PIXAR's biggest hits, and fans had hoped to see a sequel to the monstrous adventure. While a prequel in the form of Monsters University was developed, it wasn't until Disney produced Monsters at Work that audiences got to see what happened to Mike and Sully next.

Proving to be incredibly popular and nostalgic for viewers who had grown up with these characters, Monsters at Work was a quiet success. Disney+ needs to invest in more of these legacy shows that celebrate pre-existing, animated characters. Season 2 of Monsters at Work will demonstrate that the concept has legs and that further Disney properties should get the same treatment as long as there is a good story to tell.

Skeleton Crew Will Build Out the Mandoverse

LucasFilm has a clear plan for the Star Wars universe on Disney+ and is building out the 'Mandoverse' to eventually culminate in a big-screen film. While The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett have already helped to shape that road map, Skeleton Crew is a very different project that will contribute to that tapestry of tales.
