First comes the Eye of Cthulu, then the Eater of Worlds, and eventually after many hard-fought battles and hours of upgradingthe playerfaces off against The Moon Lord, agod-like entity.

There are a few bosses that aren't necessary for progression, though. While King Slime isn't a required boss,it drops decent lootfor a relatively easy fight. Nonetheless, King Slime is one of the strangest enemies in Terraria– who is the figure trapped inside, and who decided this slime should rule over anything? The answers, as it turns out, are even more bizarre.
10 King Slime Wasn't Always Crowned
King Slime, despite its name, didn't always adorn a beautiful gemmed crown. In the initial game up to the 1.1 update, King Slime could be mistaken for just a freakishly large blue slime. It had its own unique model, sure, but there was nothing to indicate its royalty.
In the 1.2 update Relogic, the company behindTerraria, gave this boss its iconic crown. Without it, there was nothing to tell the player that this slime deserves respect as the lord of ooze.
9 There's A Ninja Trapped Inside...
In the 1.2 update Relogic didn't just add a crown to King Slime's model – they also added a person trapped inside. The ninja is non-interactable and dies with King Slime upon the boss' defeat.
However, King Slime will drop one piece of the Ninja outfit when defeated, either the pants, the shirt, or the hood. It's a little bit sad that the ninja has no chance to escape the oozy body of King Slime, and even sadder when the player learns of his true identity.
8 ...And He'sThe Guide's Brother
According to Redigit, the main developer behindTerraria, the ninja is the Guide's brother. Nobody knows how the Guide's brother ended up trapped inside King Slime, and the guide never mentions his brother's existence.

Redigit confirmed thison the Terraria discord channel, which technically makes it canon. Perhaps the silver lining to this story is that the Guide eventually reunites with his brother when he is sacrificed to the Wall of Flesh... it's really not much of an upside.
7 King Slime Spawns Under Three Conditions
Most players know that King Slime has a random chance to spawn on the outer edges of the map, the outer sixths to be precise. It also spawns when the player summons him via the Slime Crown. However, most don't know that he can be forcibly summoned during the Slime Rain event.
If the player kills a whopping 150 slimes during the event, King Slime immediately spawns. When killed, the Slime Rain event ends too.
6 It Is The Only Boss Who Respawns Randomly
While other bosses like the Eater of Worlds and the dungeon guardian Skeletron only spawn after the player does certain things in the world, King Slime is the only boss who can appear out of nowhere even after being defeated.
This is because of both gameplay reasons and lore reasons. The conditions under which King Slime can spawn are not tied singularly to an item or event, and King Slime is not a single entity – it's actually an amalgamation of many smaller blue slimes.
5 King Slime Is Actually Many Slimes Merged
That's right – while King Slime appears to be a single functioning unit, it's more akin to Voltron or Power Rangers where many smaller parts make up a whole. This makes sense because the boss spawns blue slimes constantly in a fight, which are literally the slimes being pulled out of the central King Slime body.

King Slime is the only boss that respawns on its own, and it's perhaps because other slimes around the world gather to take revenge for their fallen brethren. Reaching? Maybe. Does it make sense? Sure!
4 The Fight Gets Spiky In Expert Mode
While King Slime spawns regular, wimpy blue slimes in a regular difficulty fight, it gets a bit harder on expert mode. Instead, King Slime spawns spiky blue slimes when hit in expert mode, which are a much bigger nuisance than their smaller cousins.
Spiky slimes have a projectile attack and have twice the health of a normal slime. That wouldn't be so hard to deal with if it wasn't for the fact that King Slime creates dozens of these enemies at once.
3 The King Has A Queen In Hardmode
Once the player enters Hardmode upon killing The Wall Of Flesh, many things change in the world. Queen Slime is one of these changes, replacing King Slime in the Hallow biome. Much like Chess, the Queen ismuch more powerful than the King.
The queen summons flying slimes, crystal slimes with a powerful projectile attack, and bouncy slimes in addition to having two phases the player must get through – some might call her abonafide girl boss.
2 It Can Jump Extremely High (And Teleport Through Blocks)
King Slime has a maximum jump height of 17 blocks, making it a tough enemy to contain. Additionally, King Slime hates being restricted and will teleport around the player throughout the battle to maintain its mobility.
If that wasn't enough, if the player does somehow manage to trapKing Slime withthe terrain, it will teleport directly onto the player – it doesn't have a brain, but it sure knows how to take revenge.
1 The Best Arena Is In Flat Grassland

Many bosses inTerraria are more easily defeated with a properly prepared arena. The Eye of Cthulu, for example, is far easier to defeat with a lattice of platforms that the player can navigate through to avoid attacks.
For King Slime, the best arena is the simplest: flat grassland. Be sure to bring some kind of flying or floating ability to get above King Slime and be ready to usemovement-enhancing bootsto dodge its jumping attacks.
