How do I contact tastytrade? ›

What happened to the financial network previously known as tastytrade? The financial network is still our separate but affiliated company. It was rebranded to tastylive in December 2022. You can now visit the network's website at tastylive.com.

Potential Issues

Blocked connections: tastytrade may block connections from certain types of proxies, such as those known to be used for malicious purposes. Firewall issues: If a firewall blocks the proxy's connection to tastytrade, the proxy may be unable to establish a connection.

Tastytrade is a good platform for beginners interested in actively trading stocks, ETFs, commodities, futures, and options. It offers commission-free trades, a user-friendly interface, community-based trading tools, and various educational resources.

No minimum, but requires $2,000+ for margin privileges

However, if you wish to gain margin privileges, which allows you to buy stock or ETFs on margin, it will require a minimum account balance of $2,000 or more. The trading strategies you wish to perform will be based on your margin trading level.

Like the protection the FDIC provides for bank accounts, SIPC provides investors with protection of up to $500,000, comprising $250,000 in cash and $250,000 in securities positions. It's worth noting that tastytrade does not hold customer assets.

Plus, how one trader uses their $25,000 capital might differ greatly from someone else. However, it's generally accepted that a successful day trader can make between 1% to 2% of their account balance per day. In the case of a $25,000 account, this could translate to approximately $250 to $500 a day.

What is a pattern day trader? If you make four or more day trades over the course of any five business days, and those trades account for more than 6% of your account activity over that time period, your margin account will be flagged as a pattern day trader account.

Accounts under $25,000 in equity will be set to closing-only transactions until a PDT reset is used and or the account closes above $25,000 in equity. Please note that any margin held in futures and or crypto positions will not count towards an account's equity.
