Files that are shared in a Microsoft Teams channelare available in the Files tab at the top of each channel. These filescan be synced via OneDrive to your Windows computer so that you can easily access them. These directions reference Teams file shares that have replaced UD'sWinDFSfile shares. However, you can use these directions for any Microsoft Teams channel that stores files.
Microsoft announced changes to its higher educational licensing in August 2023, effective mid-2024, that will affect Microsoft OneDrive, Exchange email, Teams, and SharePointstorage limits. Please take steps to eliminate large files that you don't need from your Microsoft 365 account.

Requirements
To set up a Microsoft Teams syncto OneDrive, you must have
- The latest version of the Microsoft Teams app installed on your computer.
- You can alsoset up syncing using the web based version of Teams.
- The latest version of the MicrosoftOneDriveapp installed on your computer.
If you are using a UD owned system, Microsoft Teams and OneDriveare most likely already installed and updated.
Set up the Team file share sync
- Open Microsoft Teams on your computer.
- If you are prompted to log in, provide your UD credentials.
- Click Teams on the launch bar to see the Teams you are a member of.
- Click the Team that stores shared files.
- The Team expands to show which channels you can access. The channel names match the folder names that were on WinDFS. Team-CSSDemo-Files is shownin the example below. The shared files for this team are stored in a channel called Shared.
- Click each channel that stores files, click the Files tab, and then click Sync.
For Teams that replace WinDFSshares, the General channel does not store files.
- A notification appears and indicates that syncing with OneDrive has started. It may take 15 minutes or longer to finish syncing.
- You can find the shared files on your computer by openingFile Explorer (Windows)or the Finder (Mac) and University of Delaware – O365. You can save files there as you would have on the shared drive (WinDFS).

Stopa file share sync
If you want to stop syncing a Teams channel to OneDrive, complete these steps:
- Navigate to the OneDrive icon (from the lower right corner on Windows and from the upper right corner on a Mac), click the wheel icon, and choose Settings.
- From theAccount tab, find thefind the channel (location) you no longer want to sync, and click Stop sync.
- Click OK.

Troubleshoot file sync issues
Issue: Files do not sync
If files stored on your computer aren't syncing with files stored in the Team site, try these options, one at a time to restore the sync.
Option 1: Make sure that you are signed in to OneDrive.
Option 2:Restart your computer.
Option 3: Re-establish the sync.
- Stop syncing the channel that is not properly syncing.
- Re-establish the file sync.
Option 4: Change the Team app settings so that Team files open in their native Office appsinstead of in the Teams interface.
- From Microsoft Teams, click the three dots next to the avatar icon.
- Click Settings, and then clickFiles.
- Chose the Desktop app radio butt, and click Save.

Issue: File sync is super slow
If the One-Drive app sync takes forever, try these options:
Option 1: If your team channel has thousands of small files, we recommend that you create another channel and move some of the files and folders to the other channel.
Option 2: Stop the OneDriveapp sync, and access the files in the Teams app at https://office.com.
Issue: I can't rename a file or folder, or the name reverted back.
Try renaming the file or folder directly from the Files tab in the Teams App.
