What is the UBS ESG consensus score? ›

The UBS ESG consensus score assesses sustainability factors, such as the performance of the relevant companies with reference to environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects. Data is consumed from leading providers, processed in accordance with defined guidelines and supplemented with analyst recommendation.

Our traditional index funds aim to deliver the return of the underlying benchmark with very low tracking error by controlling risk and maximizing value.

Each assessed entity is assigned a UBS Blended ESG Score, which ranges from 0 to 10, with 10 indicating the best sustainability profile. Sustainable investing strategies aim to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into investment process and portfolio construction.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) scores are an essential tool for investors to assess a company's sustainability and ethical performance. These scores typically range from 0 to 100, with a score of less than 50 considered relatively poor and more than 70 considered good.

ESG benchmarking gives context to a company's ESG performance through comparison across peers in the industry. It uses ratings/scores to give this context. However, as there remains no universal standard for ESG scoring, benchmarking can sometimes be difficult.

Typically, ESG scores consist of an assigned quantitative metric, such as a letter rating or numerical score from 0-100, to capture a company's overarching ESG performance and risk exposure.

ESG scores are designed to support financial institutions and corporations to measure and monitor inherent ESG risks across their financial exposures - both equity and debt. ESG considerations have a direct impact on credit ratings.

The scores contain a total company-level ESG score for a financial year, comprising individual environmental (E), social (S), and economic & governance (G) dimension scores, beneath which there are on average 21 industry-specific criteria scores that can be used as specific ESG signals.
