Learn how to resovle the Disk is Write Protect and is Read-Only on a USB Flash, Memory Card, and External Drive.*END
Description
The disk is write protected means it is Read-Only. Data cannot be written to the drive.
Causes of Write Protection
Write Protection is a way to prevent data loss on a drive.
Drive Usage Exhaustion:
Drives write data to blocks. Blocks can fail or go bad based due to usage. USB drives have threshold for the number of good blocks to determine the health of the drive. The drive will write protect itself to prevent data loss when the number of good blocks is lower than the preset threshold.
Storage Blocks:
The drive keeps two copies of data on two different blocks. The primary and secondary block. The drive will go into write protection mode to prevent data loss when corruption occurs on both copies of the block.
Resolution
Memory Cards
SD and microSD cards can be manually write-protected.

Many USB drive and SD cards have a physical lock switch which can turn on and turn off write protection. Thus you need to examine whether the flash drive enables this lock. Check the left or right edge to find out the switch. If the switch is in the Lock side, just move it to the unlocked position.

Go to My Computer/This PC and under Devices with Removable Storage, look for your pen drive device. Right-click on it and click Properties. Click Edit, in the pop-up box, sometimes there's an option to Remove write-protection. Change the status of this option and try again.
Check the physical write-protection switch on the USB hard drive. Some external hard drives have a physical switch that can be used to enable or disable write-protection. Make sure that this switch is in the correct position. Check the file system of the USB hard drive.
Step 1. Right-click the disk that is write-protected and select “Format Partition”. Step 2. Choose your desired file system (ex: NTFS), and you can also set your other disk format preferences, such as partition label and cluster size.
You can follow these steps to remove write protection from a USB pen drive: Step 1: Right-click the disk/USB/SD on its left header side in the software, and select the "Clear Read-only Attribute" option. Step 2: Confirm clearing the read-only attribute on the selected disk/USB/SD.
You can try toggling the lock switch on your storage device or use the DiskPart utility to disable the read-only attribute and clear the write protection. Advanced users can use the Registry Editor to remove write protection by creating a DWORD entry and modifying its value data to disable write protection.

Most SD cards and some USB flash drives have small levers or switches on the casing that control whether the item is writable or read-only, so look for such a lever or switch and move it if necessary.
