Ship components (2024)

Ship components (1)

Spaceships and ground vehicles in Star Citizen can be equipped with a variety of different types of components such as power plants and shield generators. Each component is classified by SIZE and GRADE and CLASS, ship weapons are classified by size only. The size determines on which ships and vehicles a component can be installed, CLASS and GRADE indicate how well it works. Each component hardpoint is limited to one component type, meaning it is not possible to install a power plant on a hardpoint dedicated to a shield generator.

Avionics[]

Avionics is the on-board electronics allowing to control the elements of the ship and to collect their state.

Ship components (2)Radars are used to detect external elements (approaching ships or missiles, debris, etc.).
Ship components (3)The on-board computers process data from all the other components.

Propulsion systems[]

The propulsion systems include all the elements which take part in the propulsion of the ship apart from the thrusters themselves.

Ship components (4)Fuel intakes are used to manage the fuel supply to the engines, in order to regulate the speed.
Ship components (5)Fuel tanks store the fuel necessary for the operation of the ship.
Ship components (6)The quantum drives allows the ship to perform quantum jumps, or journeys at 20% of the speed of light.
Ship components (7)The Jump Modules allows the ship to travel at high speed between points of interest in the same orbit.
Ship components (8)The quantum fuel tanks store the fuel necessary for quantum travel.

Thrusters[]

The thrusters allow the ship to evolve in its environment. A spacecraft has a very large quantity of them, in order to perform maneuvers in space and in the atmosphere of a planet, in all situations.

Ship components (9)The main thrusters are powerful engines providing the ship with its main thrust. Ships are generally equipped with one module but capital ships can have more.
Ship components (10)Retro thrusters allow ships to provide reverse thrust in order to slow down. They are particularly important for heavy vessels.
Ship components (11)VTOL thrusters, for "Vertical Take-Off and Landing" essentially allow ships to land and take off. They maintain flight stability, especially on the surface of a planet.
Ship components (12)Maneuvering thrusters are used, as their name suggests, for precision maneuvers. These are small thrusters scattered over the hull.

Systems[]

Systems have a direct impact on the functioning of the ship. They protect it, regulate it, and provide it with energy.

Ship components (13)The power plant is the main source of energy for the ship. Its power depends on its size (size 1 to size 6), its model and the type of technology used.
Ship components (14)Coolers have the purpose to cool down other ship components and prevent overheating.
Ship components (15)Shields are used to protect the ship from external elements (debris, enemy attacks, etc.).

Hardpoint matrix[]

Ship components are defined by three major criteria: Size and Grade and Class.

ClassificationRatingDescriptionNote
Size0 or VUsed only by ground vehicles.A 0 to 4 rating that determines on which ship or vehicle a component can be installed, only components of matching size can be installed.
1 or SUsed by snub ships and small sized ships.
2 or MUsed predominantly by medium sized ships
3 or LUsed predominantly by large sized ships.
4 or CUsed predominantly by capital sized ships.
GradeA or 1Best performing, can have additional item slot (Sub Items).
B or 2Good performance, can have additional item slot (Sub Items).
C or 3Standard for most ships, average performance.
D or 4Low quality, used by NPC.
ClassMilitaryHighest functionality and most expensive but also highest consumption.
CivilianGeneral use with no major drawbacks.
StealthReduced consumption and signature but also reduced functionality.
IndustrialReliably high output and low wear, high emissions.
CompetitionHigher performing than military but at the expense of durability and stealth, focus on performance.

FAQs

What are the 10 parts of a ship? ›

E.g. rudder, anchor, bow, keel, accommodation, propeller, mast, bridge, hatch coves and bow thrusters are some common visible parts whereas bulkheads, frames, cargo holds, hopper tank, double bottom, girders, cofferdams, side shell etc. are the invisible parts of a ship.

What is each part of a ship called? ›

To understand parts of a ship, one must have to go through some common terms. The most forward part of a ship is called a Bow; the left-hand side of the ship is referred to as port, whereas the right side is called starboard. Likewise, the front side is termed as forward and the backside as astern.

What is component ship? ›

Beyond just the hull, the components are all the devices, equipment, and tools that make up the "working" parts of a ship. From weapons to thrusters, each component has different characteristics that differentiate it from other components in that class.

What is the main structure of a ship? ›

The ship structure has been traditionally divided into three subcategories: hull girder, internal structure, and superstructure. Structural elements play various roles in maintaining the integrity of the ship. Structural failure may lead to cracking, localized flooding, or even ship breaking in extreme cases.

What is the edge of a ship called? ›

Gunwale – Also known as gunnel, this is the outermost top edge of a boat hull, usually where the deck and hull come together.

What is the middle of a ship called? ›

The centre part of the ship is referred to as amidships. When a ship is afloat, the waterline divides the sides into the ship's side above the waterline and the bottom below it. The continuous horizontal surfaces of a ship are called decks. If their surfaces are exposed to the elements, they are called weather decks.

What is the captain's part of a ship called? ›

In port, the quarterdeck is the most important place on the ship, and is the central control point for all its major activities, as well as it is where the captain usually stands.

What is the pole on a ship called? ›

A mast is a pole that rises vertically from a ship and supports the sails. Really big sailboats have more than one mast. A mast is also another name for flagpole. The mast has an important job — to support the sails, which allows the wind to propel the ship.

What is the belly of a ship called? ›

Hull: The actual body or shell of a boat is called the hull. This includes several different parts of the structure, including the deck, the bottom, and the sides. It is important to note that it does not include things like the rigging or the mast. Keel: The keel is a specific part of the hull.

What are ship compartments called? ›

Bulkheads are an essential structural component of any ship, helping separate the vessel into watertight and fire-resistant compartments.

What is the forward part of a ship called? ›

The bow (/baʊ/) is the forward part of the hull of a ship or boat, the point that is usually most forward when the vessel is underway. The aft end of the boat is the stern.

What are the four sides of a ship called? ›

Now let's learn the words for the front, rear, left and right sides of the boat. The front of a boat is called the bow, while the rear of a boat is called the stern. When looking towards the bow, the left-hand side of the boat is the port side. And starboard is the corresponding word for the right side of a boat.

What is the rear of a ship called? ›

The stern is the back or aft-most part of a ship or boat, technically defined as the area built up over the sternpost, extending upwards from the counter rail to the taffrail.

What is the railing of a ship called? ›

GUNNEL/ GUNWALE – The rail that goes along the edge of a vessel.

How did the poop deck get its name? ›

The name originates from the French word for stern, poupe, from Latin puppis. Thus the poop deck is technically a stern deck, which in sailing ships was usually elevated as the roof of the stern or "after" cabin, also known as the "poop cabin" (or simply the poop).

What are ship parts in Starfield? ›

Ship Parts are some of the most important items in Starfield, as they let you repair your ship mid-battle, but it's also easy to run out. Getting a lot of them isn't easy, and it's not just because you'll likely be overencumbered in Starfield when carrying them.
