Best Method to Find Shiny Pokemon
Use Sparkling Power 3 and Encounter Power 3 Sandwiches in Strategic Areas
A great way to increase your chances of getting a Shiny Pokemon is by making sandwiches with Sparkling Power and Encounter Power that match the Type of the Pokemon you are Shiny hunting. This works best in an area where the Pokemon you are looking for is the only one of its type!
For example, if you want to catch a Shiny Rufflet. The best location to go to would be Asado Desert because it is the only Flying type in the area. Set up a Picnic and create a Lv. 3 sandwich with Sparkling and Encounter Power for Flying.
You now have thirty minutes of increased chances of finding a Shiny Rufflet!
If you do not know where the best location would be for a Shiny Pokemon, we have compiled a list of Pokemon and their locations for you!

Increase Your Chances with Shiny Charm
Item | Effect |
---|---|
Shiny Charm | An item that increases the chance of finding Shiny Pokemon to 1 in 1365.3. |
When you complete your Pokedex and have all 400 Pokemon in the game, you will receive the Shiny Charm! This increases your chance of encountering a Shiny Pokemon while exploring Paldea.
Once you have acquired the Shiny Charm, doing this method will help increase your odds of encountering a Shiny Pokemon even further.

Eating sandwiches with a Lv. 3 Sparkling Power bonus increases the odds of finding Shiny Pokemon of a specific type from 1/4096 to 1/1024! Different sandwich recipes correspond to different types of Shiny Pokemon, but all of them need either a Sweet Herba Mystica or Salty Herba Mystica.
These ingredients can be found in 5-star Tera Raid battles, which are unlocked in the post-game. So finish the story as fast as possible!

There is also the Shiny Charm, which increases your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon from 1/4096 to 1/1365. Combined with the Sparkling Power Lv. 3 Sandwich, your odds will increase further to 1/683.
To get the Shiny Charm, however, you'll have to complete the Pokedex first.

Use Mass Outbreaks
Another way to find Shiny Pokemon is by taking advantage of Mass Outbreaks. A Mass Outbreak is a returning feature from Legends Arceus where many Pokemon continuously spawn in an area.
This is by far the easiest shiny hunting method that you can do at any point in the game even without access to Shiny Sandwiches or the Shiny Charm. The odds of finding Shiny Pokemon in a Mass Outbreak is 1/1,365 if you clear 60 or more Pokemon within the outbreak.
But if you combine the use of Mass Outbreaks with the effects of a Shiny Charm and a Lv. 3 Sparkling Power Sandwich, the odds go as high as 1/512.
Odds of Getting a Shiny Pokemon in Mass Outbreaks
Method | Odds of Shiny Pokemon |
---|---|
Mass Outbreaks | 30-59 cleared (1/2048) 60 or more cleared (1/1365) |
Mass Outbreaks + Shiny Charm | 30-59 cleared (1/1024) 60 or more cleared (1/819) |
Mass Outbreaks + Sandwich w/ Sparkling Power Lv. 3 | 30-59 cleared (1/819) 60 or more cleared (1/683) |
Mass Outbreaks + Sandwich w/ Sparkling Power Lv. 3 + Shiny Charm | 30-59 cleared (1/585) 60 or more cleared (1/512) |
How to Find Shiny Pokemon in Mass Outbreaks
1 | First, find a Mass Outbreak by opening your map and looking for Pokemon icons with a glowing red icon behind it. Sometimes they show up as question marks but that only means it's a Mass Outbreak of a Pokemon that is not registered in your Pokedex yet. |
---|---|
2 | Once you're in the area of the Mass Outbreak, clear at least 60 Pokemon by battling them or using the Let's Go! feature. Your Pokemon won't fight a Shiny Pokemon while using this feature so you don't have to worry about accidentally making it faint. |
3 | If a Shiny Pokemon still hasn't shown up after you cleared at least 60 wild Pokemon, set up a picnic and pack it up again to reroll the Pokemon in the area. Continue doing this until a Shiny Pokemon appears. |
Mass Outbreaks Guide
Use the Masuda Method
If clearing outbreaks and exploration isn't your thing, you can always rely on the Masuda Method to get Shiny Pokemon through Pokemon breeding.
Normally, you would only get a 1/4096 chance of getting a Shiny Pokemon through breeding. But if you breed two compatible Pokemon from copies of the game in different languages, the odds increase to 1/683.
We suggest using a foreign Ditto for this process, which you might get your hands on at our Ditto Trading Board!

Obtain Through Glitches
On the rare occasion, there are are a few exploits and glitches in-game that can provide players with better chances of finding Shinies! This glitch works best for Pokemon that only appear at a certain time, and with the use of Shiny Sandwiches!
For example, in Pokemon Scarlet, there is one such glitch that allows players to nab a large number of Shiny Flutter Mane!
How to Use the Flutter Mane Glitch
1 | Setup a Picnic somewhere near Area Zero. For best results, do this at the start of the day. |
---|---|
2 | Create a Shiny Sandwich for Ghost Type Pokemon! Recommended Recipe: Salty Herba Mystica (x2) and a Red Onion! If you don't have 2 Salty Herba Mystica, you can use 1 Salty and 1 Spicy Herba Mystica. |
3 | Enter Area Zero and head to Station 3. From here, enter the cave before you. You should see no Pokemon inside at this time. |
4 | Inside the cave, you should find a central platform. You'll need to head over here and stand in the center. |
5 | Look around you and press ZL. This will cause Flutter Mane to spawn, but they will just as quickly disappear. This is similar to the Picnic Table Method for respawning. |
6 | A Shiny Flutter Mane should appear in the first few minutes! Capture it with Dusk Balls! If you can't find one, try checking near the Crystals as Pokemon can sometimes glitch inside them. |
7 | Repeat until your Meal Power runs out! |

Can You Raise the Odds of Shiny Pokemon in Tera Raids?
Raids Unaffected by Item Bonuses
Unfortunately, the odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon during Tera Raid battles will always stay at 1/4,096. This is because the shiny odds within raids are not affected by the bonuses from a Shiny Charm or Shiny Sandwiches.

Can You Get Shiny Starter Pokemon?
Starters are Shiny Locked, But You Can Try Breeding
It is not possible to get a shiny starter Pokemon at the start of the game since they are Shiny Locked.
But you can try getting shiny starters by breeding them. It can be done as long as you have a female starter and a male Pokemon from the same Egg Group. Don't forget to use the Masuda Method!

Can You Get Shiny Walking Wake and Iron Leaves?
Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are Shiny Locked
While many players may enjoy joining multiple raids, and be putting off catching it in the hopes of getting a Shiny Walking Wake, that will not be possible for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are programmed to never be shiny.
Once you manage to defeat it and you have a suitable Pokeball ready to catch it in, you should go ahead and catch it!

✦ Shiny Pokemon have different colors. ✦ At the start of an encounter, a Shiny Pokemon will have a shiny, sparkling effect upon entering the battle. ✦ Once captured, the Shiny Pokemon will display a Shiny Symbol on their summary screen. ✦ Shiny Pokemon do not sparkle or make a sound in the overworld. |
Shiny Pokemon are characterized by having different colors from normal Pokemon, and a unique sparkling animation that plays before the battle starts. Once captured, Shiny Pokemon also display a Shiny Symbol on their status page in the form of two red four-pointed stars (✦).
However, unlike in Legends Arceus, Shiny Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet do not sparkle or make a sound in the overworld. Keep your eyes peeled because you might just stumble across a Shiny Pokemon in the wild when you least expect it.
