Finding out your college fund is no longer available is enough to make anyone’s heart sink. And even more so if it was repurposed to finance a solution that’s equivalent to duct-taping a structurally-compromised house.
A mother recently turned online for some perspective on whether she has done the right thing by using her younger daughter’s college fund to help her other daughter with no job, health issues, four kids, and a boyfriend.
Stepping in to help a family member in need is definitely a good thing to d0, but not at the expense of another family member

Wrote about pretty much everything under and beyond the sun. Plan on doing more of it. And when I’m not writing, I’m probably playing Gwent or hosting Dungeons & Dragons adventures for those with an inclination for chaos.

Instead of cashing in her daughter’s college fund she should grab $10 out of her purse and buy her older daughter a packet of condoms.

Ha! That made me laugh. So damn true. People who can't afford it should stop having kids. I've got one but can't and therefore won't have any more because we'd struggle!!!! It's a no brainer. Having kids is a privilege not a god given right!

I've seen this play out many times - parents help the child who is always f*cking up. The responsible child is usually forgotten and left to fend for themselves. GOOD NEWS!! The child that fends for him/her self is the one that grows up to have a successful life. The f*ckup will always be a f*ckup.

Oh, OP is a huge A$$. You do not take from one child to give to another. The younger daughter is going to resent them all and will likely end up going NC. There are so many other ways mom can help. Most importantly if the oldest daughter truly has back problems she needs to see a doctor and have it treated. Depending on the severity of her back problem there may jobs she can do. There are also social programs that can help her get back on her feet.

So true. If the daughters back is so bad she can't work, she could apply for Social Security Disability. But then you have to be able to PROVE you can't work, with doctors documentation. That's the hard part.
