App activity reports
Not all screen time is created equal. It can depend on whether your child is using their device to read a book, watch videos, or play games. You can use Family Link’s app activity reports to see which apps your child is using most, and make decisions about what they have access to.
Limit daily access
You decide what’s the right amount of screen time for your child. Family Link allows you to set daily screen time limits, set a device bedtime, and remotely lock your child’s Android or Chrome OS device.
Manage content and purchases
Approve or decline app downloads from the Google Play Store, and in-app purchases your child wants to make through parental controls.
Access and manage your child's account and data settings in Family Link. As a parent, you can help change or reset your child’s password if they forget it. You can also edit your child’s personal information or even delete their account if you feel it’s necessary. They can’t add another profile to their account or device without your permission. Finally, you can check to see the location of their Android device (as long as it’s on, connected to the internet, and recently active).

Let your child access Google Assistant through a controlled account
Children can log in to Assistant-enabled Chrome OS or Android devices with their own account, managed with Family Link. They get their own personalized Assistant experience and can access games, activities, and stories designed for families. Children are blocked from making transactions, and parents can decide whether their children have access to third-party experiences on the Assistant.

You can manage your child’s access to specific websites when they are using the Chrome browser on their Android or Chrome OS device through parental controls. You can choose to limit your child to only the websites you are comfortable with or block specific sites that you don’t want them to visit.
Filter explicit results on Search
For an added layer of protection, you can turn on SafeSearch to help filter most explicit results, like p*rnography. SafeSearch is on by default for signed-in users under 13 (or applicable age in your country) who have accounts managed by Family Link. Parents also have the option to turn it off or block access to Search all together.

The easiest way to quickly set up a safe online experience is by turning on SafeSearch. While signed into your own Google account, you can do this by going to google.com/preferences.There, click the box beside "Turn on SafeSearch" and then scroll to the bottom of the page and save.

Your SafeSearch setting can be set to "Filter" and locked by your account, device, or network administrator. You can check if your SafeSearch setting is locked at google.com/safesearch. If your setting is locked, at the top right, you'll find a Lock .
On the day they turn 13, children can choose whether they want to manage their own Google Account or continue to have their parent manage it for them. As a parent, you can also choose to remove supervision at any time when the child is over the age of 13.
To unlock your child's device, you can also use parent access. You get an access code in the Family Link app. or on the web. You won't receive this number through email or SMS.
Enter this one-time use only number into the child's device before the code expires.
Who can manage my child's account? By default, it's just the person who sets up the account but the family manager can add another family member to serve as a second parent who can manage and monitor the child's device.
If you're worried: make sure the content your child sees online is appropriate for their age by using parental controls and filters in search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. make sure you have set parental controls on the home broadband and devices.

Family Link is very effective at instituting parental controls. It's not perfect, but it provides many features that help you ensure your child uses their device and surfs the web safely. Most importantly, it's free to use, unlike similar parental control tools that usually require a recurring subscription.
Some children may feel confused and unable to process what they have seen or experienced. Some children may be curious and want to find out more. If someone has sent something to them directly, they may feel threatened or distressed.
