A senior management team consists of top-level employees who work together to manage an organisation. Headed up by the chief executive officer (CEO), this group of individuals sits at the top of a company's structure and provides strategic steer.

Like other levels of management, seniors are responsible for supervising and guiding other staff members. At this level, the staff they are responsible for are often other managers or supervisors. As a senior manager, you might be responsible for overseeing an entire department, including the managers within it.

While managers are primarily concerned with team goals and immediate deliverables, the responsibilities of a senior manager extend to setting, overseeing, and monitoring departmental objectives.

Becoming a senior manager or director often serves as the final advancement opportunity for a particular career path. As top supervisory positions, these jobs are often long-term end goals for professionals who plan to retain them until retirement.
