Do I need to go through passport control in Schiphol Airport? ›

Standard passport control at Schiphol

When travelling from Schiphol to a non-Schengen country, you have to pass through Passport Control. Your passport is also checked when you arrive from a non-Schengen country.

You won't be going through customs at Schiphol until you return from your trip. Unless you're travelling to another Schengen country, you'll be going through passport control after the security check. And that process is handled by the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, not Dutch Customs.

That time can vary, at Schiphol, it has taken me from 15minutes to almost an hour. It all depends on how many planes landed at that time. Of course, most times, the planes from North America land early (Jet Stream helps) so your time out the door may not be long after your estimated arrival time.
