Santa Modesta was a small, seaside town located in southern California. It was a stereotypical 1950's American town with near-identical houses (each with a television aerial), a television station, a bowling alley, and several diners. Men wore polyester jackets and housewives walked around the streets in robes.

Saint Modesta (died c. 680) was the founder and Abbess of the monastery of Oeren in Trier, Germany.
