Military jobs are considered some of the most dangerous jobs around, but it is still possible to find a career in a relatively safe role. The safest military jobs are the non-combat roles and traditionally cover administrative and support, legal and medical. No job in the military is totally safe as you can always be deployed to a combat role if this is your career choice.
1. Administration and Support Jobs
Many of the administrative roles are non-combat and are carried out at the base. They are generally safe roles to be in and provide good career choices once your military term is over. They are essential for the morale of the troops and to ensure that the military machine runs smoothly.
2. Financial Management Technician
This position is the military equivalent of a bookkeeper or accountant. You will be required to prepare and maintain budgets and accounting systems. To pay invoices and process checks, deal with travel expenses, and prepare financial reports. You will calculate military pay and analyze financial data. Your role is to keep the financial wheels of the military moving.
3. Human Resources Specialist
As a Human Resources Specialist, you will be maintaining support to keep Soldiers combat-ready. The role covers both the health and general welfare of the military staff. You will be involved in strength assessment as well as personnel records and accountability, postal services, and keeping emergency contact data.
4. Shower/Laundry and Clothing Repair Specialists
Your main responsibilities are the decontamination of showers and personnel clothing. Your job duties will include bulk laundry, mobile shower units, and alteration and repair of uniforms.
Other administration and support roles to consider are Chaplain, Quartermaster, and Supply Specialist.
5. Legal Jobs
Jobs in the Legal Services also tend to be non-combatant and you will usually be on base or even Stateside. These are important roles essential to the smooth running of the military.
6. Paralegal Specialist
Your role is to provide legal advice and support in all areas of the law that affect your base and commanders. You will be required to prepare legal documents for areas including criminal law, contract law, and international law. You will also assist in will preparation, separation documents, and other areas of family law.
Other Legal roles to consider are Criminal Investigations Specialist, Internment Specialist, and Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps Attorney.
7. Medical Jobs
Medical jobs that are non-combatant are usually safe.
8. Dental Specialist
Your primary role is to assist the Dentist and maintain the dental office and equipment. Job duties are wide-ranging and cover the preparation of instruments, assessing the patient’s vitals, and the administration of anesthesia. You will learn skills from dental hygiene and preventative dentistry to office procedures and X-ray techniques. This is a very valuable role with good civilian career prospects.
Other Medical roles to consider include Animal Care Specialist, Biomedical Equipment Specialist, Optical Laboratory Specialist, and Pharmacy Specialist. There are many more medical roles that are non-combatant and provide safe military careers with skills easily transferred to civilian life.
No military job is completely safe as you will often be operating in combat zones and you could be deployed in another role if needed, but these are some of the safest military roles available.
