If you've been playingRisk of Rain 2 since it first came to PC, then you know about each survivor, but did you know there is a secret survivor? That's right, there's an entirely new survivor that doesn't show up in any logbook until you discover them.
This secret survivor is known as the Heretic. Risk of Rain lore describes the Heretic as a quick, bird-like character. The Heretic has some nice perks too. When you play as her, you will have three jumps by default. She also has an incredibly high amount of health, starting at 440. This also increases a lot between levels. Other survivors increase health by a modest amount when they level up, but the Heretic gains 132 health per level. To balance this, she has negative health regeneration, meaning that she will lose health over time.

The Heretic has a unique method of unlocking, so be sure to check out the requirements below. Prior to unlocking the Heretic, you will need to have at least eight lunar coins, so plan accordingly.
How to Unlock The Heretic
To unlock the Heretic, all you need to do is collect the four lunar items of Heresy. Unlike other characters, the Heretic does not unlock permanently; you need to unlockher every time you play through.
For example, once you unlock Acrid, you have him. You can play as him immediately and don't have to do the challenge again. The Heretic works a bit differently. Each time you want to play as the Heretic, you need to collect all four lunar items again. It's a bit of a pain, but definitely worth it.
Here are the four Heresy items and what they do:
Visions of Heresy: (Primary) Fire a flurry of tracking shards that detonate after a delay, dealing 120% base damage. Hold up to 12 charges that reload after 2 seconds.
Hooks of Heresy: (Secondary)Charge up a projectile that deals 175% damage per second to nearby enemies, exploding after 3 seconds to deal 700% damage and root enemies for 3 seconds. Recharges after 5 seconds.
Essence of Heresy: (Special)Dealing damage adds a stack of Ruin for 10 seconds. Activating the skill detonates all Ruin stacks at unlimited range, dealing 300% damage plus 120% damage per stack of Ruin. Recharges after 8 seconds.
Strides of Heresy: (Utility) Fade away, becoming intangible and gaining +30% movement speed. Heal for 18.2% of your maximum health. Lasts 3 seconds.
Essentially, you are gathering items to replace each ability. When all four items are gathered, you'll transform into the bird-like character that is the Heretic. You can gather these items from lunar buds and trips to the shop, but if you're looking for an easy way to obtain the four items, use the Artifact of Command. This allows you to pick whichever item you want. While holding the artifact, you can travel to the Bazaar Between Time (after activating a newt altar), buy every lunar item, and then pick the four Heresy options. Each one will cost you two lunar coins.
Touse the Artifact of Command, you must already have it unlocked.Unlocking artifacts can be done in Sky Meadow by accessing the layer underneath the main map that holds a giant terminal. Check out our list ranking each artifact in the gameif you want to unlock more.
After unlocking the Heretic, you can fly around the map with your triple jump, ravaging enemies that cross your path. Remember, when you play another run, you will have to unlock the Heretic again. Once you unlock them the first time, it should become easier though.
