Updated April 22nd, 2021 by Charles Burgar:Many updates later, Risk of Rain 2 still stands as one of the best roguelikes in the market currently. New tilesets, items, and survivors have made certain parts of this list obsolete. We've gone through and revised the list, removing out-of-date information and adding new secrets that would be hereticalnot to include. Enjoy!

The Aqueduct is a possible second area that players can find during a loop. While the area seems barren of secrets, there is a hidden chamber that players can enter.

This chamber houses two Elite Elder Lemurians. To open it, you will need to find two pressure plates on the map and have something standing on them at the same time. You can use the Engineer's turrets, objects from the map, or other players. Slaying both enemies will always drop the Runald and Kjaro bands.

9 Artifact Codes

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (2)

Hopoo's take on game modifiers, Artifacts are game-changing passive effects that you can toggle before you start a given run. There are 16 Artifacts in total, altering the game in exciting ways.

To unlock these Artifacts, you will need to find unique codes scattered throughout the game. When you find a code, you'll need to input the series of hieroglyphs into a grid located at the bottom of Sky Meadow, the fifth stage in Risk of Rain 2. If successful, you'll open a portal to a trial associated with the Artifact in question. Beat the trial to unlock the Artifact for future playthroughs.

8 Gesture of the Drowned Reference

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (3)

Lunar items are unique in that they come with a massive boon but a major drawback. Gesture of the Drowned's drawback is arguably its biggest strength, automatically activating equipment items when possible.

This item is also instantly recognizable, appearing to be a fossilized Whorl from the firstRisk of Rain. In that game, these enemies were part of a challenge where 20 needed to be drowned before you could unlock the Filial Imprinting item. Considering this item appears to be a Whorl, Gesture of the Drowned is likely a reference to this annoying challenge from the original game.

7 Guaranteed Rares

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (4)

Rares, sometimes referred to as Legendaries by the community, are powerful items that grant game-changing benefits. The chance of a rare dropping from a chest is, well, fairly rare. Thankfully, there's a way to guarantee a Rare from a given run.

Every fourth stage in Risk of Rain 2 has a way of obtaining a guaranteed Rare item. Each stage requires the following:

  • Abyssal Depths:A Rare Chest will always spawn at the center of the stage, hiding inside a rock that's near some plants.
  • Siren's Call:The hidden boss of this stage, Alloy Worship Unit, will always drop a Rare when it's killed. You can spawn the boss by breaking six nest eggs scattered throughout the zone.
  • Sundered Grove:A Rare Chest will always spawn in one of five possible locations.

6 Wake of Vultures Reference

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (5)

Risk of Rain 2 has many influences that range from rogue-like titles to aRPGs. It seems that the developers are quite fond ofPath of Exile based on the Wake of Vultures Rare item.

Wake of Vultures steals an Elite monster's modifier for 8 seconds after you slay them, granting you their passive bonuses temporarily. This is exactly what Headhunter does inPath of Exile, only the same buff can stack on itself in that game. Even the item looks similar to Headhunter, using bird skulls instead of human skulls in a belt shape.

5 Gilded Coast

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (6)

Many secret zones exist inRisk of Rain 2, including a Bazaar Between Time and A Moment, Fractured that ends the player's run. One zone is so rare that few players have even seen it.

It is called the Gilded Coast. You must find the extremely rare Golden Shrine and donate an absurd amount of money to spawn a Gold Orb. Complete the Teleporter challenge and a Gold Portal will spawn. Traveling through it will bring you to the rare area, where players must killAurelionite, one of the toughest bosses in the game. Defeating this golden Titan grants a Halcyon Seed, spawningAurelionite as an ally whenever you start a Teleporter event for the rest of the run.

4 Secret Scavenger Boss

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (7)

Obliterating yourself is one of two ways of ending a run without dying, rewarding Lunar Coins and the Mercenary character. If you have a special item, there is one more step to this process.

Obtaining the Beads of Fealty will allow you to travel to A Moment, Whole from the obliterating obelisk. This zone has a modified Scavenger as the final boss, dealing an absurd amount of damage to you if you aren't careful. If you can kill it, you'll be giving ten Lunar Coins. Killing this boss ends your run.

3 Elite Aspect

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (8)

Did you know that Elites have a small chance of dropping their Elite modifier as an Equipment item? It's true! The chance of seeing one, however, is incredibly low.

RELATED: Risk Of Rain 2: The Ultimate Huntress Guide

Elite enemies have a 1 in 4,000 chance of dropping an Elite Aspect for players to use. This chance can only be modified by using 57 Leaf Clovers, but that Rare item itself is hard to find. Once you have an Elite Aspect, it is always active and does not need to be used like normal Equipment. You gain the exact modifiers enemies obtain, such as the Fire Elite's ignite chance and burning trail while moving.

2 Heretic

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (9)

Risk of Rain 2 has a hidden survivor that can only be accessed in the middle of a run. Named Heretic, this strange bird character will become your character if you obtain all ability-augmenting Lunar items.

Those items include:

  • Vision of Heresy
  • Hooks of Heresy
  • Strides of Heresy
  • Essence of Heresy

Obtaining all four items will turn you into Heretic, complete with a new appearance and passive. Heretic will constantly lose health over time, but he gets three jumps instead of one. Your abilities are the same as the Lunar items, giving you a kit that focuses on high burst damage and staying alive through your Shadowfade's healing effect. This character is extremely powerful if played right, although getting all of the items needed to play as Heretic can be a hassle.

1 Cloaked Chests

Risk Of Rain 2: 10 Secrets You Likely Missed (10)

Most players know of chests and their varying rarities, granting different items based on the chest type. However, there is one type of chest that is so rare that most players don't knowof their existence.

These are called Cloaked Chests and they are nearly invisible. Cloaked Chests can spawn in any zone and are free to open, so long as you find them. Radar Scanners can help locate these items, and they will be enveloped with red claws when the teleporter event is in progress just like every other interactable item.
