Renew Apple VPP Tokens in Microsoft Intune (2024)

Apple allows you to buy multiple licenses for an app intended for use within your organization on iOS/iPadOS and macOS devices through Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager. Afterward, you can sync your volume purchase details with Microsoft Intune and monitor the usage of the apps you've purchased in bulk.

Download Apple VPP Tokens from Apple Business Manager

Ensuring the timely renewal of these tokens is crucial for maintaining uninterrupted access and management of your Apple VPP apps and licenses. This preservation contributes to a positive user experience within your organization.

1. Navigate toApple Business ManagerorApple School Manager.
2. To download the existing Apple VPP Token, click on the account name at the left side bottom inApple Business (or School) Manager and select Preferences.

Navigate to Payments and Billing > Apps and Books > Content Tokens. In this section, you will find the available tokens for download. Simply click on the Download button, and the token will be automatically downloaded.

Renew Apple VPP Tokens in Microsoft Intune

To renew Apple VPP tokens in Microsoft Intune Admin center, follow these steps:

1. Sign intoMicrosoft Intune.
2. Navigate toTenant Administration>Connectors and tokens.

3. Navigate to Apple VPP Tokens node, here, you can configure and create Apple VPP tokens or update existing tokens.

4. Select the VPP token you are renewing.

5. In the Apple VPP Token Properties, clickEditon the Basics category. Here you will get various options to control the apps or account as well inside the settings.

6. On the Basics tab, In the VPP token file, Select the downloaded .vpptoken file to upload, and then click on Review + save to save your changes.

7. After uploading the new token, proceed to save your changes. A notification message will then appear, indicating that the Apple tokens have been successfully saved.

Additional information

If assigned to external MDM is indicated in Intune, then you (the admin) must remove the VPP token from the 3rd party MDM before using the VPP token in Intune.

If status is Duplicate for a token, then multiple tokens with the same Token Location have been uploaded. Remove the duplicate token to begin syncing the token again. You can still assign and revoke licenses for tokens that are marked as duplicate. However, licenses for new apps and books purchased may not be reflected once a token is marked as duplicate.
