What’s that sound?

There are many elements that create noise in a car’s interior: wind, driving speed, road conditions, engine and structure noises, as well as tyres.

One of the main sources of tyre noise is the tyre air cavity resonance, produced by air vibration inside the tyre and transmitted to the vehicle’s structure.

Goodyear’s SoundComfort technology works directly to reduce the tyre air cavity resonance.

A sound choice

The good thing is that you can choose for SoundComfort without compromising other capabilities. The warranty is the same, the tyres are repairable, and the driving performance is just as good – the only difference is… they are just a lot quieter.

When you’re browsing for new tyres, you can find information about how quiet the tyres are by checking thetyre label. By choosing a tyre with a good noise rating you can lower the impact of your driving on the surrounding environment and potentially within the car.

The noise level is sorted into class A, B or C. An A rating is the best performance and C is the lower end of the scale. The rolling noise of the tyre is measured in decibels and the exact number is shown in the bottom part of the label. Tyres with a low noise level have between 67 and 71 dB. The highest level shows sound waves in between 72 and 77 dB. An increase of just a few decibels represents a big difference in noise levels. In fact, a difference of 3dB doubles the amount of external noise the tyre produces.
