Thousands of 'rare' 50p coins are currently in circulation - and one has just sold on eBay for £1,500. The online seller had the Paddington Bear coin from 2019, which came from a Glasgow seller, and auctioned it on eBay on Monday, February 13, with the 50p fetching £1,500.
According to Glasgow Live, the coin is said to be the 14th rarest 50p and features the famous bear who loves marmalade sandwiches. The coin depicts the bear standing outside Buckingham Palace and waving a Union Jack.
The Paddington at the Station 50p is the most sought after of all the Paddington Bear coins, according to Change Checker's Mintage figures index, with a figure of 5,001,000. Mintage is the term used to describe how many are in circulation.

The eBay listing ended on Monday with one bid on the coin and whilst not many people ended up putting money down, it paid off for one with it selling for £1,500. Other Paddington coins feature him standing outside The Station, The Tower of London and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
According to Change Checker, the 2019 Paddington™ at the Tower of London 50p was issued by The Royal Mint to continue the celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the British Bear.
