The Gameplay Mechanics of RAID: Shadow Legends
At it’s core, RAID: Shadow Legends is a turn-based RPG that allows players to strategize and defeat the different content available. It is a live-service title that regularly holds exciting events and tournaments for players to collect rewards and earn massive resources. If you’re a beginner, we recommend checking out a thorough resource guide to help you understand about the core currencies involved in day-to-day happenings in Teleria. Firstly, it would be better if you got to know about the UI elements and their brief meanings:
Champions: These are the characters you collect and use in battle. They are divided into four rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary.
Affinity: There are four affinities: Magic (Blue), Spirit (Green), Force (Red), and Void (Purple). Magic beats Spirit, Spirit beats Force, and Force beats Magic, while Void is neutral to all.
Campaign: The main story mode where you progress through different stages to earn rewards.
Dungeons: Special stages that drop gear, potions, and other items needed to upgrade your champions.
Arena: PvP mode where you fight against other players’ teams.
Clans: Joining a clan gives you access to Clan Boss battles and additional rewards.
Choosing a Starter Champion
Different players will have different expectations on what type of champions they like. RAID: Shadow Legends is full of such choices. One of the first moment of such decision-making can be seen when you start the game and create an account. You will need to choose 1 rare champion out of the 4 choices given below:
- Kael: A powerful AoE (Area of Effect) damage dealer with poison abilities. He is widely considered the best starter due to his versatility in all game modes, especially in the early game.
- Athel: A balanced champion with strong single-target damage and self-buffing abilities. She’s great for beginners and offers solid performance in various content.
- Galek: A strong single-target and AoE damage dealer. Galek is good for early game progression but falls off compared to other starters in the late game.
- Elhain: An AoE-focused champion with strong critical hit potential. While she’s good in the early game, she doesn’t scale as well as Kael or Athel.
All of them are equally strong, although we would recommend choosing Kael as your starter champion. He has access to the Poison debuff that can significantly help you in several PvE areas of the game such as Clan Boss, Dungeons, and more. It’s always recommended to boost your starter champion to 6-Stars and max level 40. If you have the time and energy, you can also farm their masteries in the Minotaur dungeon or simply pay the sum of 800 Gems to unlock them for free.
Early Game Progression Tips
Coming to progression, it’s quite streamlined in RAID: Shadow Legends. All you need to do is firstly create a synergized team of 4 champions that will carry you through the early game content. Primarily, your focus should be to complete the campaign mode on normal difficulty. Not only will this help you get access to some more Ancient shards but also unlock more content for you in the process. Remember, leveling up in the game is tied to how much energy you spend. Also, the campaign mode is the best place to get your champions some extra experience points and level them up for higher base stats.
Next up are the dungeons. Now, don’t expect to magically clear all the stages in a day. The stages in each of the 4 main equipment dungeons get progressively harder as you climb. It’s recommended that you read up on their individual abilities and build teams accordingly. Prioritize on building a team consisting of at least 2 DPS, 1 healer/debuffer, and 1 tank champions. It’s advised to use your collected Mystery shards in hopes of pulling some amazing rare champions such as Apothecary, Frozen Banshee, and more.
Gearing
Gearing can be quite rough as a new player since you likely do not have access to higher tier equipment to make significant impact. Still, this is an area you should never overlook. Gearing is extremely important as it allows even the weakest champions to perform decently. It fulfils the lack of base stats by providing additional stats as well as set effects. When you equip artifacts of the same type in a 2-piece or 4-piece set, they will grant your champions with additional benefits that can be seen by clicking on them. We would recommend focusing on the following gear sets in the early game for extra survivability and damage:
Lifesteal Set: Ideal for your starter champion, especially for Kael. It heals the champion by 30% of the damage dealt, making it easier to sustain in battles.
Speed Set: One of the most important sets in the game. Increases a champion’s speed, allowing them to take more turns and control the flow of battle.
Critical Rate and Critical Damage Sets: Use these sets to boost your damage dealers’ effectiveness by increasing their chances of critical hits and the damage they deal.
Accuracy Set: Important for champions that rely on debuffs. This set increases the chance of landing debuffs on enemies.
Speed Set: Very useful in all types of content, be it PvE or PvP. Having more speed allows your champions to go faster and take more turns in a shorter time span.
