Objects can be stored in two types of object repositories—a shared object repository and a local object repository. A shared object repository stores objects in a file that can be accessed by multiple tests or components (via their application areas) (in read-only mode).

UFT One supports both local and shared object repositories. Objects in local object repositories are available only to the associated action, while shared object repositories can be associated with multiple actions. By default, shared object repositories are opened as read-only.

Object Repository is a collection of object and properties with which QTP will be able to recognize the objects and act on it. When a user records a test, the objects and its properties are captured by default. Without understanding objects and its properties, QTP will NOT be able to play back the scripts.

There are two main types of repositories: centralized and distributed. A centralized repository has a single central hub, while distributed repositories enable every user to have a complete copy of the entire codebase, enhancing collaboration and flexibility.

Local Object Repository is editable in Object Repository. Shared Object Repository is read-only by default but can be edited in Object Repository Manager. It is NOT a standalone file that can edited. SOR is a standalone file that can be edited easily.

The Object Repository Comparison Tool is designed for comparing repositories that are different, but have a set of overlapping objects. This tool is useful if you want to decide whether to merge two repositories without performing the actual merge and addressing object conflicts in the Object Repository Merge Tool.

In UFT One, select Resources > Object Repository Manager. The Object Repository Manager enables you to manage the object repositories associated with your test, and contain your test objects. In the Object Repository Manager window, select Object > Add Objects. Both UFT One and the Object Repository Manager are hidden.

How to copy objects from one object repository to another in UFT? ›

After starting running first QTP will see the class, object name in script and it searches for the same object name in object repository. If that name exists in object repository then QTP will identify the object in application using recorded properties in object repository.

An object type is a user-defined composite datatype that encapsulates a data structure along with the functions and procedures needed to manipulate the data.

UFT One has a predefined set of properties that it learns for each test object. If these mandatory property values are not sufficient to uniquely identify a learned object, UFT One can add some assistive properties and/or an ordinal identifier to create a unique description.

Types of Repositories

Local Repository − It is used to store the metadata of all objects created in Data Services Designer like projects, jobs, data flow, work flow, etc. Central Repository − It is used to control the version management of the objects and is used for multiuse development.

The Objects

The size is simply the size of the contents, the contents depend on what type of object it is, and there are four different types of objects: "blob", "tree", "commit", and "tag".

Digital repositories may store the following types of content: Derived or raw research data. Full-text preprint scholarly research papers. Full-text peer-reviewed final drafts of journal and conference proceedings papers, such as- Electronic journals/ articles, e-Books and e-book chapters, Theses, dissertations, etc.
