What is the prayer for Proverbs 11:13? ›

Faithful Father, I ask for the Holy Spirit's help to be a person of integrity who proves trustworthy throughout my life and ministry. I want people to know that they can trust their hearts, secrets, and burdens with me and that I will bring them only to You — that I won't gossip or leak their concerns to others.

This verse commends seeking advice from others; taking the step of conferring with other people makes one much more likely to reach a good conclusion.

Scripture forcefully condemns gossip. A person who has been told a secret in confidence, but breaks that confidence by sharing the secret with others, is a gossip. So is the person who passes along information which is not theirs to share, or which they have no personal knowledge of.

In this verse Solomon observes the difference between wealth acquired suddenly and wealth gained slowly but honestly. The implications of this proverb involve both money that is brought in greedily, or through questionable means, and that which is simply gained instantly.

In particular, those who pursue wealth and worldliness at all costs will be left without hope (Proverbs 11:1–8). Those who seek righteousness not only benefit their own lives, they are a blessing to others. Their generosity helps their neighbor, and in return they can expect help in times of crisis.

The wisdom taught in Proverbs is godly wisdom, which has three basic characteristics: the fear of the Lord, spirituality, and skill. Fearing the Lord means having a deep reverence and respect for God and his Word, a respect and reverence that result in obedience.

Therefore, the chief aim of the book of Proverbs is to bring divine truth into proper focus, enabling us to look at life through God's eyes—from His eternal, all-knowing point of view—and then live accordingly. Proverbs teaches us how to gain wisdom from God's reproofs so that, in the power of the Spirit, we will obey.

Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But the one who gathers by labor increases it. Our prayer: Lord, help us to keep going and to work diligently for the increase that you provide, knowing that we can count it all joy!
