Pokédex view[]

Pokédex (3)

To access the page of Pokédex in game:

  1. in Map View tap Main Menu button Pokédex (4)
  2. tap Pokédex button Pokédex (5)

On the top of Pokédex page there are two player's stats, which are number of already caught and seen Pokémon.

Below them there are tabs with each region Pokémon and number of these Pokémon currently caught. Additionally when theKanto tab is selected and it is top of the Pokédex scrollable page, currently owned Medals related to each region Pokémon appears above the respective tabs.

Whole, long page of Pokédex is filled with fields for every Pokémon species in game. There are three types of such fields:

  • non-interactive tile with a number of Pokémon species - species of this Pokémon has never been caught nor seen by player,
  • tile with shadow, monochromatic silhouette of Pokémon - species of this Pokémon has been only seen by a player (either has been seen in gym or encountered in the wild but has not been caught),
    • after tapping such field, player access incomplete Pokédex entry of specific Pokémon species,
  • field without background-tile and coloured image of Pokémon species - species of this Pokémon has been caught by player already,
    • after tapping such field, player access complete Pokédex entry of specific Pokémon species.

Initially not all of the number tiles appear, but only those ones up to the field of Pokémon species that has been caught or seen with the highest Pokédex number in each region. There are the Pokédex number in each section by regions:

  • Kanto: #1 to #151
  • Johto: #152 to #251
  • Hoenn: #252 to #386
  • Sinnoh: #387 to #493
  • Unova: #494 to #649
  • Kalos: #650 to #721
  • Alola: #722 to #807
  • Galar: only shows tiles corresponding to Pokémon which have been caught or seen
  • Hisui: #899 to #905
  • Paldea: #906 to #1025
  • Unknown: #808 and #809, which are for Meltan and Melmetal

Also each section of such Pokémon has a header line with the name of region.

In the bottom right corner of the page, there is a button that allows to change view between standard Pokédex and Extra Pokédexes.

There are three ways to exit from the page of Pokédex:

  • by tapping on return button on the player's mobile device (not available for iPhone users for obvious reason),
  • by tapping on the exit button Pokédex (6) on the bottom of screen,
  • by swiping down at the very top of the list, which cause X icon appeared and then release.

Pokédex filtering[]

Pokédex entry[]

Pokédex entries are basically separate pages with information about specific Pokémon species. There are two kinds of these entries: complete and incomplete ones.

Incomplete entries consist of:

  • 3D, animated and turnable Pokémon's image,
  • Pokédex number and Pokémon's name,
  • switch buttons between genders and/or forms,
  • amount of seen, caught, lucky and purified Pokémon of that species (in this case only seen is not 0).

While complete ones has also:

  • regular weight and height of Pokémon,
  • Pokémon's type(s),
  • if more than three Pokémon of that species (or form) have been caught, the weight and height record information is shown,
  • category of Pokémon (e.g. Drill Pokémon, Volcano Pokémon, Armor Pokémon),
  • short description of Pokémon's species,
  • evolution line of Pokémon, tapping the another Pokémon in the evolution line will visit such Pokémon entry,
  • the button to check all that Pokémon in Trainer's collection.

Pokémon form switches[]

Depending on what forms of each Pokémon were caught by Trainer already, respective form switches appear underneath Pokémon's 3D image. Pokémon with different forms have different switches for each different form. There is different switches for male and female (if the species is not genderless) and shiny variants.

If player obtained for the last time particular Pokémon of any gender sometime before December 2016, it might cause that both gender form switches appear as Pokémon were only seen, despite the complete Pokédex entry and exact Pokémon being already in player's Pokémon collection.[1]

When registering a Shiny Pokémon:

  • will also register the non-shiny form to the Pokédex, if the Pokémon was not previously registered.
  • will unlock only the switch to the corresponding form, if the Pokémon has different forms
  • if the Pokémon has male and female gender switches unlocked, both shiny switches are unlocked when registering a Shiny Pokémon. This is not the case if the male and female are considered separated forms.
  • if the Pokémon has only male or female gender switches unlocked, the respective shiny switch of the unlocked gender is unlocked when registering a Shiny Pokémon.

Switches for only-seen Pokémon forms cannot be clicked since the version 0.89.1. Therefore even if player has seen female form of Pokémon in gym or has encountered it in wild but not caught, in Pokédex only male form is seen in its complete Pokédex entry.

Extra Pokédexes[]

Pokédex (149)

In addition to standard Pokédex, there is several extra Pokédexes that register Pokémon with certain characteristics. Some extra Pokédexes do not have region Pokédex medals at the top of the pages. The medal rank color is the same as the standard Pokédex, while the totals for each region correspond to the selected Pokédex. Other than the standard and Mega Pokédex, each additional one is unlocked after registering a particular number of examples, such as 10 different species of that category (so to unlock the Shadow Pokédex, you have to catch 10 different Shadow Pokémon); while Shiny Pokémon now have their own separate Extra Pokédex that must be unlocked, Shiny Shadow forms are registered in the Shadow Pokédex.

Mega & Primal Pokédex[]

Pokédex (150)

Mega Pokédex is the first extra Pokédex introduced, unlocked by default. It registers all Mega Evolution. It is hued bright red and it is not split into region sections. Trainer has to Mega-Evolve male and female separately to register different genders. To unlock the shiny switch, Trainer has to Mega-Evolve the shiny version. It keeps track of the caught, seen and unseen Mega Evolutions.

Since Primal Reversion is introduced, it is merged together to become Mega & Primal Pokédex.

Trivia[]

  • As of October 7th, 2016, Pokémon encountered at a Gym will appear as a shadowed version in the Pokédex with limited information even if they have never been encountered in the wild.[2]
  • Version 0.191.0 introduced the function to visit another entry in the evolution line and check all that Pokémon in Trainer's collection.[3]
  • Mega Pokédex was introduced along the launch of Mega Evolution. The rest were introduced to a selected portion of Trainers on June 28th, 2021,[4][5] and were made available to everyone since the 5th Anniversary.[6]
  • Version 0.255.0 introduced the search function.[7]
  • Because Meltan and Melmetal are shown at the very bottom of the Pokédex, after the Pokémon from Galar afterwards, the Pokédex does not display Pokémon in Pokédex number order.
  • The Pokédex displays that Nincada, Stantler and Scyther can evolve into Shedinja, Wyrdeer and Kleavor respectively. While this can occur in other Pokémon games, it is not possible in Pokémon GO.
  • Mega Evolving originally would increase the seen counter of the standard Pokédex. It was fixed retroactively.[8]
