Period Lot-Sizing Procedure
Use
In the period lot-sizing procedure the system groups together the quantities of uncovered requirements that lie in one period. A total requirements quantity is derived from this that the system has to cover by a specific date in the period using one or more receipts. For products produced in-house, the system considers the assembly scrap in the total procurement quantity.
You can only use the period lot-sizing procedure for the standard heuristics for planning standard lots
, but not for the actions for covering dependent requirements immediately.
Note
You can only use fixed lot sizes or lot-for-lot order quantities for these actions .
End of the note.
Prerequisites
In order that the system uses this lot-sizing procedure, you must have specified the lot-sizing procedure period lot size
at the place relevant to the application (for example, location product master or heuristic settings).
Features
Definition of the periods
You can define the periods in the location product master as follows:
You enter a period type (for example, day, week or month) and a number of periods. A period comprises the specified number of periods of the chosen period type. A period begins at the start of each day, week, or month, depending on the selected period type.
You enter a number of periods and a planning calendar in which you have flexibly defined the duration and sequence of the periods.
Constraints for the procurement quantities of the receipts
You can also plan using minimum lot size , maximum lot size and rounding . The system processes the total requirements quantity in a period according to these criteria.
Desired availability date of the receipts
As standard the system tries to schedule the receipts for the first requirements date in a period. However, in the location product master you can also define that the system moves the desired availability date to another date within a period. For this option you must specify X in the availability date
field and a value between 0 and 1 in the period factor
field. If, for example, you enter 0.5, the desired availability date is in the middle of the period if you enter a 1 at the end of the period. The system does not take non-working times such as weekends or holidays, into account.
If an availability date is before the first requirements date, the system shifts the availability date to the corresponding date in the previous period.
Example
If in a weekly period the first requirements date falls on the Wednesday and the availability date on the Tuesday, the system shifts the availability date to the Tuesday in the previous week.
End of the example.
Example
You would like a receipt to be made every Wednesday at 12:00 that covers the requirements for the whole week. You choose the period lot-sizing procedure. You specify a planning calendar in which you have only defined the Wednesday with a working time from 0:00 to 24:00. In order that the receipt is made at 12:00, you must enter X in the availability date
field and 0.5 in the period factor
field.
