To sign up for the 60-minute Pentagon building tour, reservations can be requested at the Pentagon website 14 to 90 days in advance. Tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, not weekends and federal holidays.

A 60-minute guided tour highlights the history of the building and the Department of Defense. Covering approximately 1.5 miles, the guided tour includes the Hall of Heroes, which honors America's Medal of Honor recipients, as well as an exhibit dedicated to prisoners of war and those missing in action.

The public tour is a good glimpse into the Pentagon, and you get to briefly see some of the displays that litter the hallways of the building. The tour guides are very competent and knowledgeable, but you just don't have time to see everything or read what you do see on the tour.

The Pentagon Tour is about 60 minutes in duration, with a walking distance of about one and a half miles through Pentagon corridors and staircases. Visitors taking part in a Pentagon tour should wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Touring the Pentagon

The Pentagon is virtually a city in itself with over 23,000 employees, both military and civilian, assigned. It has 200 acres of lawn, 16 parking lots, 131 stairways and 19 escalators, a number of food and shopping vendors, dry cleaners and banking facilities.

For civilians, this is “business attire”. The uniform/attire for visits to the Pentagon is as follows: USMC Service B/C USA Service Class B USN Service Khaki USAF Service Uniform Blues USCG Tropical Blue/Winter Dress Blue Civilian Men Business suit or coat and tie. Civilian Women Business attire.

Cameras. The use of cameras or other visual recording devices on the Pentagon Reservation is prohibited.

The Pentagon Visitor Entrance is located adjacent to the Pentagon Metro Entrance. Pentagon Visitor Entrance hours: Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I had a small rucksack and had no issues with it at the pentagon. The rule of thumb is “less is more” don't take anything you don't actually need with you.

It has five sides, five floors above ground, two basem*nt levels, and five ring corridors per floor with a total of 17.5 mi (28.2 km) of corridors, with a central five-acre (2.0 ha) pentagonal plaza.
