Penn State's student-run philanthropy set another fundraising record during its annual dance marathon.

Penn State THON, the world's largest student-run charitable organization, reached another fundraising milestone during its 2024 dance marathon at the Bryce Jordan Center. The THON event raised a record $16,995,683 million for pediatric cancer research and treatment, a cause it has supported for more than 50 years. Proceeds from THON benefit Four Diamonds, a national non-profit fund that covers medical expenses for families experiencing childhood cancer at Penn State Health Children's Hospital and supports the Penn State College of Medicine's cancer research program.

Penn State THON has raised nearly $220 million for pediatric cancer research since 1977. More than 700 Penn State students this year participated in the 46-hour event, without sitting or sleeping, in what has become a global event.

Penn State athletics teams have become stakeholders in THON, volunteering and attending the event and performing dance routines for participants. On Saturday, members of the Penn State men's basketball team attended THON after playing an afternoon game at Nebraska. Penn State coach Mike Rhoades attended his first THON.

The Penn State football team hosted its annual THON Explorers Program, entertaining and interacting with kids and families at Holuba Hall.
