How do I declare tithing online LDS? ›

Complete Tithing Declaration

To record a tithing declaration: From Leader and Clerk Resources, click Finance, and then click Tithing Declaration. On the Tithing Declaration tab, for each member, click Full, Part, or Non, and then click Declared by Bishop or Declared by Member.

However, only members of the Church may pay tithing. Members are encouraged to make their contributions online where possible (see donations.ChurchofJesusChrist.org). Members may also give their contributions and a completed Tithing and Other Offerings form to the bishop or one of his counselors (see 34.5. 2).

You can start using online donations to pay your tithing and other offerings by navigating to ChurchofJesusChrist.org or by going to the My Account and Ward menu on ChurchofJesusChrist.org at the top right corner of the page. Click My Account and Ward and then the Donations link under the “My Ward” section.

Charitable donations are tax deductible and the IRS considers church tithing tax deductible as well. To deduct the amount you tithe to your church or place of worship report the amount you donate to qualified charitable organizations, such as churches, on Schedule A.

The tithe is God's law for His children, yet the payment is entirely voluntary. In this respect it does not differ from the law of the Sabbath or from any other of His laws. We may refuse to obey any or all of them. Our obedience is voluntary, but our refusal to pay does not abrogate or repeal the law.

Should I tithe on gifts? There's no scripture that says you have to tithe on money you receive as a gift or inheritance, but that doesn't mean you can't. Really, this one is a decision between you and God.

Loss of membership (excommunication)

Those who have lost their Church membership may continue to attend public Church meetings, though they are restricted in their participation in the same way as someone who has been disfellowshipped. Additionally, they would not be permitted to pay tithes to the Church.

The tithing status of a member is declared either by the member at tithing declaration or by the bishop. Members are encouraged to attend tithing declaration to make their declaration to the bishop in person. It is not necessary for a donor to have paid all donations for the year before making a declaration.

Additionally, deductions made for charitable contributions, including tithing, must generally be itemized. As such, you will need to itemize your deductions on Schedule A, or Form 1040. You'll also need to maintain documentation of charitable contributions that you want to itemize and deduct.
