The most leaves on a clover stem (Trifolium repens L.) is 56 and was discovered by Shigeo Obara of Hanamaki City, Iwate, Japan, on 10 May 2009. Mr. Obara has studied clovers for many years and was the finder of the previous record holder in this category.
Four five and six leaves are fairly common on a single clover stem. The most leaves I have ever found was a nine leaf clover. The other post here says that the world record is 56 leaves.
Some estimate that your chances of finding a five-leaf clover is about 1 in 100,000! No wonder they're said to bring extra good luck. It's not actually as hard as you might think to find a four-leaf clover, or even a five-leaf clover.
