Mission is the core purpose of an organization or a company. It is a summary of the aims and core values. A mission tells what you as an organization do for customers. A mission is comprehensive but also very specific to set you apart from other organizations.

What are mission and vision statements? A mission statement defines the organization's business, its objectives, and how it will reach these objectives. For Catholics, “Missions” is the term given to those particular undertakings by which the heralds of the Gospel, sent out by the Church and going forth into the whole world, carry out the task of preaching the Gospel and planting the Church among peoples or groups who do not yet believe in Christ.

While the Bible might not specifically use the word “mission,” the concept is rooted in biblical truth. Mission signifies purposeful movement—being sent from one place to another for a purpose. The apostles of Jesus were among the first to be sent out on a mission to share what Jesus was proclaiming.

A meaningful personal mission statement contains two basic elements. The first is what you want to do – what you want to accomplish, what contributions you want to make. The second is what you want to be – what character strengths you want to have, what qualities you want to develop.

When the mission has grown sufficiently that it can support a priest of its own and can purchase a facility of its own, it is usually elevated to the status of a “parish” or “church.”

A good mission statement should only focus on what is most important to the organization. It should be brief, clear, informative, simple and direct. It should avoid elaborate language, clichés, and generalizations and it should emphasize outcomes and the people the organization is serving.

Life missions are the key aspects of your life that make it worth living. Fulfilling these missions is what gives your life meaning, joy, and completeness. A life mission can be to fulfil a goal or dream, like to become a children's author. Or it can be a mission about your relationships to your family.
