Macy's Store Card Review
3.0 / 5
The Macy’s Store Credit Card is a good card for people with fair credit or better who want to save on Macy’s purchases. The Macy’s Store Card has a $0 annual fee, gives new cardholders up to $100 off their first purchases, and rewards all Macy’s spending with 2-5% back. You can also get free shipping and special discounts.
Macy's Store Card Review Highlights
- Not the only Macy’s card. If you have good or excellent credit, you may be able to qualify for the Macy’s American Express Credit Card. The Amex is a bit more rewarding than this Macy’s Store Card. But you can only apply for the Amex at a store location, and you only need fair credit to get the store card. You can compare the two Macy’s credit cards and check your credit score for free on WalletHub.
- Good initial bonus. Both Macy’s credit cards give you a20% discount onpurchases made either the day of account opening or the following day, up to $100 saved. That savings limit is the only thing keeping this bonus from being truly spectacular.
- Convoluted rewards. Silver status (Annual Spend up to $499) entitles you to 25% off any day of choice with Star Passes. The number of Star Passes you get each year is not fixed. Gold status (Annual spend of $500 or more) entitles you to Silver Benefits plus free standard shipping on Macy's purchases and a Birthday Offer. Finally, Platinum Status (Annual spend of $1200 or more) gives you Gold Benefits plus 5% back (5 points/$1) in rewards with no exclusions on Macy’s merchandise. The overall package is pretty good, but this Macy’s rewards card clearly has some moving parts.
- Above-average APR. The Macy’s Card charges an interest rate that’s above the average for a store card (30.44%) and well above the average among all new credit card offers (22.75%), according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report. And that means you should always pay your bill in full.

I've read a few times that people have received discounts when using their card after their initial purchase in stores. I was wondering if anyone would know if I can receive the same discounts using my Macy's credit card on line?

The Macy's Store Card can't be used anywhere. It can only be used at Macy's and macys.com. The Macy's American Express Card, on the other hand, can be used anywhere Amex is accepted, including Macy's.
You need good or excellent credit (700 or higher) to get the Macy's Amex, and at least fair credit (640 or higher) to get the Macy's Store Card.

Bull**** card. First of all the only benefits end up being macy's store credit - which honestly wouldn't even be a problem if the store credit didn't expire after 30 days. So you can never accrue very much. Also they send you bonus offers in the mail saying you will receive more rewards when you use the card a certain amount within a specific time frame, but then they don't honor it.

Macys Automated Pay By Phone system no longer exists in 2023, when you call to make a payment, the automated system Threatens customers by saying "if you speak to a person, it will cost you". Then it automatically puts on a person!!!
Macys credit card payments Online. Not safe.
MACYS is now FORCING their card holders to either incur charges when paying ther bill
Macys chaged me $29 for not being able to make a payment on automated And caused my credit score to Dive.

Macy's Citibank Credit RUINED my great credit. They have no regard for longtime loyal customers. I had an account with Macy's for YEARS. I sent them an address change numerous times and my address change and phone number also was on all my online orders. I ordered about $100. of product on-line, never got a bill, was super busy at the time, and a couple months later, when I went in to make a purchase, I found my account in "Recovery" and they said, "I made some purchases and they never heard from me again." They had my correct address AND phone number AND email. I was never contacted about a late payment. NOTHING. Now I owe triple the amount. Customers rely on getting a bill. Period. (Or a call, or an email.) ZERO CONSIDERATION FOR THE CUSTOMER.

Approved for $300 after applying online yesterday with a 722 credit score. Called in today to see if that was accurate and to possibly try for a higher credit line and was not approved for that.

Approved for $300 after applying online yesterday with a 722 credit score. Called in today to see if that was accurate and to possibly try for a higher credit line and was not approved for that. A little disappointed, but oh well. I pay in full each statement on my other cards so I guess I'll just wait until 6 months to try again. I thought I had gotten approved for the American Express Macy's Card yesterday, but the representative told me it is not. So this is even more disappointing. I feel like I wasted my third hard pull.

Wait a couple of months and then go to the furniture department and pick out a couch ask them to check if you can get approval to up your limit to get the couch. After they up it tell them that you need to think about which couch and will be back. Your set! Now forget about the couch and enjoy you credit increase.

I purchased a piece of furniture on an interest free for 1-year agreement. On the third statement, interest charges started to appear. I called in to correct the charges and was able to get credited back for the charges. You have to watch your back with this card...most people probably just pay the bill and Citibank reaps the profits.

My card was stolen, called and reported it stolen, ask them to lock the account and issue a new card. Rep refused and told me they don't care my card was stolen, they won't be locking my account. I hung up and called again, and the same thing, told me it was too much trouble for them to lock and issue a new card . I told them to close my account immediately or I file a federal complaint, once again refused. I called a third time and again demanded my account closed or I would contact the authorities, finally it was closed.

Their reps are never available! Account access online never works either :(
Every time I have logged in to make a payment the option is NEVER available. I fell behind because these clowns either don't hire enough agents, or they don't bother updating anything. I CLOSED my account after 3 months because of this putrid nonsense.

BEWARE!!! When I first got the card I loved that could use it anywhere and didn’t have a problem the interest rate was high but I was managing. Fast forward to August 2021 I paid my balance off in full which was $3,000 mind you they credited my account to clear the balance BUT they would not apply it to my credit limit saying that will take TWO weeks for that to happen I never got a notice or anything stating due to the high amount it will take longer to fully clear mind you they took the money out of my account immediately and admitted during the call the funds have been received saying it is their policy for larger payments MIND YOU THEY ENDED UP CHARGING ME $47 FOR INTEREST ON A $0 BALANCE BECAUSE MY CREDIT LIMIT WASN’T UPDATED SO IT MADE IT LOOK LIKE THE PAYMENT DIDNT CLEAR IN TIME AND THEN THEY REPORTED THAT BALANCE TO THE CREDIT BEREAU THIS WHOLE THING IS SO FRAUD the moment that credit limit is updated I am closing my account!!

I purchased an $1800 item in December with 18 months no interest promotion. The website does not allow you to manage promotions to apply payments to the non-promotional charges first. I called twice to ask them to set it up that way and was told it was done. But they're too incompetent to do that simple task. As a result, I have an $8 charge that has been on my card since January, despite paying $500 in monthly payments and making no other charges. Even worse, they charged me interest on the promotional item in March and April. I called them May 17th and was promised the interest charges would be reversed. Naturally, only one of the 2 was reversed. Now I need to waste another 20 minutes on the phone with them today. This is what happens when you outsource customer service to a third world country
