A Leader is the Hero the player chooses to lead their Troops into battle, providing them with extra boosts. Leaders are distinguishable from other heroes by the small glowing crown above their icon.
Leaders are distinct from Avatars, which are the icons used in the in-game chat; they are not always the same Hero. The Leaders of other players can be viewed by tapping on their profile. Players can change their Leader in their profile window, which displays the following information:

Leaders can be given Equipment to wear, which provides various Turf boosts.
Protecting[]
Players can use either a Shield or the Shelter to directly prevent enemies from capturing their Leader. The Leader can also be sent along with a Garrison to a member of the same Guild. They can also be sent to a Camp or a Resource Tile, although neither are recommended for protecting your Leader.
Capturing[]
Once a player reaches Castle Level 10, other players can capture their Leader. When Castle Level 17 is reached, the Leader can also be executed by opponents.
If your leader has been captured, your in-game icon will will have bars displayed over it, and when viewing your profile, information about your captor can be viewed. If your leader has been executed, a small halo icon will display instead, and your profile will display the dead leader.
Players who have captured a Leader can set a Ransom in Gold, which the captive player can pay to get the Leader back.
The player who has lost their Leader can also set a Bounty on their captor, which another player can claim if they successfully attack the captor and rescue the Leader. A Bounty cannot be refunded once it is set, nor will it be rewarded if the Leader is not rescued before execution or is released by the captor.
If captured, players can use Devil's Cap to poison their Leader, and they will die within 24 hours. When a Leader is dead, it will revive automatically in several days, but can be revived instantly with a Revival Fruit.
