As Lazada kickstarts its 4.4 Sale for 2024, the e-commerce platform appears to have also silently revised its voucher use mechanics, with new rules for how you can stack different types of vouchers and rebate codes in one purchase order. On top of that, several of the usual benefits and features that shoppers have come to associate with Lazada are also glaringly missing, including Lazada Bonus.
To start, one of Lazada’s key appeal for customers lies in the ability stack multiple vouchers codes in one order, allowing you to enjoy pretty substantial discounts – especially during monthly double date sale events. The platform has continued to allow this, although it also began to tighten the rules by introducing some restrictions on the types of vouchers and codes that can be stacked in one order back in May 2023.
Now, Lazada appears to have updated these restrictions further, as laid out in the following table from the platform:
For comparison, here’s the previous arrangement:
One of the main changes is the inability to stack bank partner vouchers with even more vouchers and codes; prior to this, bank partner vouchers cannot be stacked with only two types of vouchers: e-wallet payment vouchers and code vouchers. Now, you can no longer stack bank payment vouchers (as well as e-wallet payment vouchers) with platform vouchers, code vouchers (payment-related), code vouchers, and Lazada Bonus (LazBonus).
Here’s another illustration from Lazada as an example on how vouchers can now be stacked:
Aside from these, we also noticed that Lazada Bonus has been conspicuously missing during this sale. Typically, shoppers are required to collect their Lazada Bonus in the days running up to the double-digit sale event, after which they can use it to offset their purchases at a discount rate of 10% (RM9 off for every RM90 spent). That said, Lazada has continued to include LazBonus in its revised stacking table, so it is uncertain if this is only a temporary arrangement or if the benefit has been permanently discontinued.
Another apparent difference during this 4.4 sale is the introduction of a new type of vouchers called campaign vouchers, which can be collected here. These vouchers are similar to category/platform vouchers, but unlike those vouchers, campaign vouchers are not applicable sitewide – limited only to sellers who support them.
Additionally, LazFlash Extra also appears to have been removed from the platform. LazFlash Extra is a feature that lets customers get additional discounts on top of the rebates that they are already enjoying through the regular LazFlash flash deals.
With these changes implemented on the platform, the ongoing 4.4 sale in Lazada has been rather underwhelming, and if continued, will be a pretty different experience moving forward – especially if you’re used to getting great deals from the platform.
Undoubtedly, it will also mean that shoppers will need to be more aware and conscious in comparing prices in Lazada and Shopee, which in recent times has been ramping up their own voucher propositions to be more competitive.
