FAQs

How do I reply to a late night message? ›

If you're down for some late-night chatting or flirting, go for it! If the person texting you really does just want to chat, go for it! You can text them back and talk about how you can't sleep, either. Ask them what they're doing up, how their day was, and what they hope to dream about.

Is it rude to text after 10pm? ›

Sara Jane Ho, who addressed this topic in her new book, “Mind Your Manners: How To Be Your Best Self In Any Situation,” said it's best to keep texts to “reasonable waking hours” between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

What does it mean when someone texts you late at night? ›

When a guy regularly texts you at night or before going to bed, it could mean several things: He has no time to text people until late at night. He is thinking about you late at night, possibly in a romantic way. He likes to talk to you in his "down time" when he's relaxing.

Do texts wake people up? ›

Some people don't turn their phone on silent before they go to sleep, so a late-night text could wake them up. If you know the person you're texting is an early-to-bed, early-to-rise type of person, you might want to hold off on the late-night texting.

What is the best good night reply? ›

The simple and polite answer is:“Sleep well, sleep well!” When a guy texts me “good night, sleep tight”, how do I reply back? Don't let the bed bugs bite.

Is it weird to text someone at 11pm? ›

It can be rude if you're waking her up.

If you text a girl and it's so late that you've disrupted her sleep, then texting is disrespectful. It's a lot more considerate to wait until the morning or ask her in advance how late you can text her. This shows her that you're concerned about her well-being.

Is it illegal to text after 9pm? ›

The TCPA prohibits any telephone solicitation (including text messages) anytime before 8 am and after 9 pm in the recipient's time zone (known as "quiet hours"), but certain states have more restrictive rules. To be safe, you should only send texts during normal hours (9 am to 8 pm in the recipient's time zone).

Is it unprofessional to text at night? ›

Unless you're communicating with a very close friend, family member or significant other, “the intimacy of a late-night text is simply not worth the risk of intruding, jarring and disturbing,” Farley said. “Is your message so important it truly can't wait until the next day? Chances are, not.”

When a guy texts you at 10pm? ›

He only texts or calls you after 10 PM. If he's only reaching out late at night, it's a strong sign that he's not interested in getting to know you on a deeper level. Late-night contact usually means he's looking for a casual hookup rather than a meaningful connection.

How late is too late to text back? ›

"As a general rule, you shouldn't text somebody after 9 p.m. It may be seen as an intrusion of privacy, or they may feel you're inserting a sense of urgency that doesn't need to be there. As for the morning, if school hasn't started and you wouldn't expect the person to be at work, it's best to wait.

When a woman texts you late at night? ›

If a girl is texting you late at night or first thing in the morning, she's letting you know that you're the last thing on her mind before she falls asleep and the first person she thinks about when she wakes up. She also may be trying to make sure she's on your mind just as often.

What is the number one rule of texting? ›

Spell all words, eliminate confusion. Never use all CAPs, it is the equivalent to yelling. Texting doesn't require a response. There is always a time and place for it.

Is it rude to reply late? ›

While it's okay to reply later if you're actually busy, purposefully waiting to text somebody might feel disrespectful if you're available. If you had to make the person wait for more than an hour, offer them an apology and explain what kept you from messaging them.

Should I reply to her late at night? ›

Use your judgment before you reply.

If you think a response can wait until morning when you're sure she's up, then it's fine to wait. It's also a good idea to hold off if your response requires more back and forth texting and you're not sure if she's up.

Should you respond to a goodnight text? ›

No matter what your relationship is to the other person, respond with a simple “thank you” to be polite. You can leave it at that, or follow up with “you too” or “same to you” to return their kind words. Them: “I'm so excited about our presentation tomorrow. Be sure to get enough sleep, and have a good night.”
