The Points Rewards Plus program, previously known as Powerup Rewards, allows you to earn points purchasing participating products in-store or online at Kroger brand stores. Points can then be redeemed for gamer-favorite rewards, grocery savings, gift cards, and experiences.

How does Points Rewards Plus work?

For every $40 that you spend on purchases of qualifying products during a qualifying period, you will receive a unique one-time unique Points Rewards Plus pin code redeemable for 1,000 points.

Qualifying purchases can be made in-store or online at Kroger brand stores and you must spend a full $40 on qualifying products to receive the 1,000 points. Spend amounts less than $40 prior to the end of a qualifying period will not carry over to the next qualifying period.

As a member, you must log into your Points Rewards Plus account and redeem the code. You can earn multiple pin codes in any one transaction over the course of any Qualifying Period, but you are limited to depositing four pin codes per week and redeeming two rewards per week.

The Points Rewards Plus program has eight separate and independent qualifying periods to purchase qualifying products and earn points.

Redeeming Points Rewards Plus points

Points Rewards Plus points can be redeemed for fuel points, games, downloadable content, gift cards, grocery savings, and more.

Fuel points

Points earned in the Points Rewards Plus program can be redeemed for Kroger fuel points. Redemptions start at 2,000 points for 500 bonus fuel points which is equal to 50 cents off per gallon at participating locations.

Every 100 fuel points is equal to 10 cents off per gallon and you can redeem up to 1,000 fuel points at participating fuel centers for a total of $1 off per gallon.

In terms of value, the larger the fill up, the more value you'll get out of this redemption. Here are the estimated values you'll receive based on how many gallons you pump:

  • 10 gallons: 0.25 cents per point.
  • 15 gallons: 0.38 cents per point.
  • 20 gallons: 0.51 cents per point.

  • 30 gallons: 0.77 cents per point.
  • 40 gallons: 1.03 cents per point.
  • 50 gallons: 1.12 cents per point.

If you're going for this redemption, make sure that you're near empty so that you can get the most value.

Games and downloadable content

Points Rewards Plus points can be redeemed for a small handful of downloadable games and content. There's not a large amount of stuff to pick from and the few options that are available will give your points a value of 0.33 t0 0.44 cents per point.

  • Apple Gift Cards

Is the Points Rewards Plus program worth it?

The best redemption option (or at least most consistent) for the Kroger Points Rewards Plus program is 28,350 points for a $100 gift card which will give your points a value of 0.35 cents each. Since you earn 1,000 points per $40 spent, you'll need to spend $1,160 on participating products in order to build enough points for a $100 gift card.

Crunching the numbers that comes out to be a 8.6% return on your spending which is a great return. Just be aware that there are caps on how many Pin Codes you can redeem and how often you can redeem... so even if you do spend a lot at Kroger, it may take awhile before you can actually redeem your points for what you want.

Even with that being the case, there's no cost to sign up for the program so I highly suggest doing so if you frequently shop at Kroger and their partner stores.

Credit cards for Kroger

There are no credit cards that will earn you points in the Points Rewards Plus program, but you can still easily double dip on rewards by using a rewards credit card to pay for your Kroger purchases. This way you'll earn both points in the Points Rewards Plus program and rewards from the credit card you use.

Kroger credit card

Kroger offers one co-branded credit card that earns cash back rewards. The earning rates are nothing to write home about as there are better credit cards for grocery purchases. The card offers the ability to save 25¢ per gallon on fuel every time you redeem at least 100 fuel points at Kroger Family of Companies Fuel Centers for the first year which is very nice, but you'll need to spend $6,000 on the card in order to earn that benefit the second year onward.

Kroger Rewards World Elite Mastercard®

  • Save an additional 25¢ per gallon each time you redeem at least 100 fuel points at Kroger Family of Companies Fuel Centers for the first year and thereafter when you spend $6,000 in a calendar year.
  • No annual fee.
