What does Keep Australia Beautiful do? ›

What we do. Keep Australia Beautiful Council (KABC) provides leadership in the field of litter prevention and reduction in Western Australia.

1971 Keep Australia Beautiful National Association commenced, formed by Dame Phyllis Frost &Colin Hill. 1974-5 “Dopes Rubbish Australia” and “Pig” television campaigns launched. 1970's CARE AWARDS and Golden Broom Awards.

Keep Australia Beautiful runs community education and awareness campaigns to reduce littering in WA. Since 2009, Western Australia has achieved some great success in reducing litter, with a 27% reduction in the number of items littered and a 21% reduction in the volume of litter recorded via the National Litter Index.

Introduce the terms LITTER and WASTE. Explain that litter is waste put in the wrong place (e.g., on the ground, on the road, etc.). Ask the students, "What happens to some litter when it rains?"
