Je Yeong-min (지영민 in Korean), alsocalled Ji Young-Min is themainantagonist of the 2008 South Korean thrillerfilm The Chaser. He is a serial killer who mostly targets prostitutes and rich neighbors.
He was portrayed by Ha Jung-woo.
Biography[]
Yeong-min was charged for assault from leaving his sister's sonbrain-damaged three years ago.At some point, Yeong-min began torturing prostitutes and killing them with a chisel.He later murderedan architect and began living in his house. Yeong-min would call to lure prostitutes to this house before killing them in the bathroom.
His most recent victim was Kim Mi-jin, asingle motherwith ayoung daughter. Mi-jin was told by her pimp, Joong-ho, to catch the killer, but before she can do anything she is captured by Yeong-min. He strikes her with the hammer and chisel that he has been using to beat his neighbors and victims with. Later, Mi-jin escapes from him but Yeong-min soonfinds her at a store and kills her. when Mi-jin's pimp Eom Joong-ho learns she went toomissing and noticed Yeong-min's shirt had her blood on itwhen he realized that Young-min was onewith thenumber 4885. Joong-ho was himself as a former police officer who chased Young-min before he got him and took himto thepolice station where Yeong-min confessed the murderous crimes he committed. Joong-ho was tired but later find Mi-jan, but it was late when Yeong-min wasfreed for faking MPD after 12 hours as he soontracks down and Mi-janwho went into hiding at ashopkeeper's home. Later, Yeong-min kills theowner then Mi-jan and took the body parts of their butcheredcorpsesto his fish tank. After Mi-jan's death, Joong-ho confirmed that Yeong-minwas going to leave the house and beat him as Young-min triedto kill Eom before Eom striked back at Yeong-min by hitting his skull just before thepolice stopped him anddiscover thebodiesand remains Je's victims near his house. Yeong-min who survived from attack, was taken into custody by thepolice once again. Je was later also a painter who while in incarceration,draw dark and grimpictures.

Young-min is a dangerous and deranged psychopath who killed many people with hammer for sad*stic pleasure and the joy of the kill.

- Ji was loosely based off Yoo Young-chul, a real-life serial killer.
- Before Ha Jung-woo was casted, Lee Jun-ki was thefirst choice to portray Young-min but he left for SBS television series Iljimae. Lee plays themain hero in MBC television series Arang and the Magistrate.
- In Murder 2which is theunofficial remake of The Chaser, when Dheeraj Pandey is based off him but unlike Young-min, Dheeraj kills women backwhen he was a cross-dresser, similarity shared by the Bride in Black.
