How to get your IXL diagnostic score up fast? ›

Try to answer 10–15 questions a week to keep your levels up to date. Explore all the skills recommended just for you, and select one to work on! Click on any recommendation to go to that skill! This indicates the skill is recommended for you by the Real-Time Diagnostic.

Students will need to answer as many as 10 questions correctly in a row to achieve mastery. For most skills on IXL, students will have to complete a minimum of 28 questions to earn a SmartScore of 100. When a student achieves a score of 100 on IXL, you can feel confident that they have truly mastered that skill.

Have students head to the Diagnostic arena once a week and answer questions until their diagnostic is updated. This should only take about 10-15 questions, and will take a shorter amount of time the more frequently students answer diagnostic questions.

With IXL Analytics, IXL tracks and reports on every single question your students answer on IXL, as long as they are signed in. This means you are always in the loop on your students' progress and have access to up-to-the-minute insights about their practice.

Grade level guide: 100 = 1st grade, 200 = 2nd grade, 300 = 3rd grade, 400 - 4th grade, 500 = 5th grade, 600 = 6th grade, 700 = 7th grade, 800 = 8th grade, and 900 = 9th grade. By clicking on the IXL image above or the word IXL, students will be forwarded to the log in page.

*Note: Diagnostic levels correspond to grade levels. For example, a score of 850 indicates the student understands about 50 percent of 8th grade material. Pro Tip: Use these scores to determine whether your students are working above, at, or below grade level, and how many students are at each level.

It's calculated based on question difficulty, answer accuracy, and consistency. When your child is getting the hang of the concept, their SmartScore will increase, and their questions will get harder.

With IXL, it is possible to never be done with homework. If a student is required to get to a SmartScore of 85 and are struggling with a concept, it would take them far longer to complete than the 20 questions of book work. Some students of BAMS agree that IXL is causing them too much stress.

These levels range from 0-1300, with 0-50 representing pre-K, 50-100 kindergarten, and 1300 representing the end of 12th grade/ready for college. You can use these diagnostic stats to determine if a student is around the level you would expect based on the point of the year they are in.

The Real-Time Diagnostic is always available; students can enter the Diagnostic at any time and answer as many questions as they like. When students first use the Diagnostic, we recommend they aim to diagnose until their complete diagnostic data is revealed—for most students, this will be around 45 minutes per subject.

IXL has a strong focus on math and language arts, while Khan Academy offers a wider range of subjects. Consider your learning style: If your child is a visual learner, then you may prefer Khan Academy's videos and articles. If your child is an auditory learner, then you may prefer IXL's games and quizzes.

Real-time student diagnostic data provides teachers with a personalized Recommendations Wall for each student, listing future skills to practice. IXL is a great tool to practice and reinforce topics.

It's calculated based on question difficulty, answer accuracy, and consistency. When your child is getting the hang of the concept, their SmartScore will increase, and their questions will get harder. When your child gets a question wrong, their SmartScore will drop, and they will get easier questions.

A score of 500 indicates readiness to begin working on 5th grade skills. As soon as a student has finished diagnosing, you'll have immediate insights waiting for you in IXL Analytics.

This study found that higher IXL usage leads to better performance. In both math and ELA, students scored better on the Keystone Exams when they reached proficiency in more skills on IXL. Using IXL with fidelity was also associated with better Keystone performance.

We recommend that students set a SmartScore goal of 80, which indicates proficiency. IXL's extensive research shows that achieving proficiency in at least two IXL skills every week can improve test scores. If students are ready for a challenge, you can encourage them to work to a SmartScore of 90 or even 100.
