Historically, IT management in organizations dealt with basic operational tasks. Gradually, it evolved into more complex and stratified functions. ITAM emerged as a discipline focused on the tracking and managing of IT assets, including hardware, software, licenses, and its main purpose is to reduce waste and cost. The introduction of an IT asset management system marked a significant step forwards, enabling organizations to monitor and optimize their IT resources.
Concurrently, ITOM developed to address the operational aspects of IT systems. It encompasses the day-to-day tasks, processes and infrastructure required to manage, maintain and deliver IT services. The evolution of ITOM has been marked by an increasing emphasis on automation, performance monitoring and service management.
