Deciding when to pull out or keep your teeth can be difficult. The pain that follows the former decisions can be quite uncomfortable. However, keeping your infected teeth can be devastating for your oral health.
Gum diseases and cavities usually cause tooth loss. Acid in the mouth erodes the enamel, weakening teeth. So, how do you determine the right time to take action?
Let’s find out:
When to Fix Your Tooth
When Your Teeth Feel Sensitive
If you experience any kind of discomfort, especially when you eat something hot or cold, visit the dentist. A little or sharp pain indicates you have a thinning enamel.
Discoloration
This is nothing serious and can be easily fixed with cleaning teeth. To restore the shine of your teeth, opt for a tooth whitening procedure. However, if you spot holes in the teeth, you might need a root canal or a crown.
Pain with Pressure
If you find difficulty in chewing or biting, your tooth is injured. Delay in seeking dental help might result in a crack in your teeth.
When to Go for Tooth Extraction
Overcrowding
When teeth are positioned the wrong way and conflict with other teeth, it is called overcrowding. The impacted teeth don’t go properly and cause other functional problems. This is why the overcrowded teeth are extracted to create space.
Damage
You can repair a damaged tooth using different methods. If the damage is extensive and the tooth is hollow, it must be extracted.
Infection
If the decay spreads to the pulp, a doctor usually recommends a root canal to minimize tooth pain. However, if there’s not enough support left behind, an extraction becomes necessary. In this case, getting an implant is advised.
Remember – tooth extraction is always the last resort. Before that, the dentist will do everything in their power to choose a restoration option.
If you are experiencing any of the problems mentioned above, visit Meadows Family Dentistry. Get your teeth checked thoroughly to determine the problem. Discuss possible options with your dentist and a treatment plan. For more information, call (303) 660-5576.
