I’ve had an Apple Card for several years and like it. I’d like to have a second Apple Card that I share with my wife for shared purchases, and continue to keep my personal Apple Card for my own purchases (she would continue to keep her own personal non-Apple credit card). I was told by the help chat that this was possible—she should apply for an Apple Card and then add me. But when I go to accept being added to her Apple Card, it states that it will merge my card with hers. Now the help chat is telling me that it is only possible to have one Apple Card per Apple ID. Why? Why is it not possible to have two Apple Card’s associated with one Apple ID, e.g., one personal card and one shared card?
Alternatively, if one can only have one Apple Card per Apple ID, it should be possible to track/flag charges as “joint” or “personal” and pay those charges through separate accounts.

Goldman Sachs (Apple Card issuer and servicer) offers only two kinds of accounts, individual account and joint account. You can only have one Apple Card account per Apple ID and Social Security Number. You can either have one individual account or one joint account, but not two individual accounts, or one individual account and one joint account. That is not permitted and is a violation of the terms and conditions.
You and your spouse can have one joint account or you can each have an individual account. That is all that is permitted. No exceptions. Individual accounts can be merged into one joint account. Once merged, they can never be separated into two individual accounts again.
Individual accounts and joint accounts can have Participants (Authorized Users), but you are not permitted to be a Participant in more than one account, be it one joint account or one individual account. You cannot be an individual account owner and a participant on another account.
In other words. What you want to do cannot be done on an Apple Card account with Goldman Sachs. In fact, what you are trying to do is probably impossible. Very few credit card issuer permit joint accounts. Nearly all issuers allow only for individually owned credit card accounts. Nearly all accounts permit Authorized Users, but they have no legal standing or responsibility under federal and state banking laws. A series of checking accounts is a better mechanism for what you’re trying to do.

You cannot have two separate Apple Card Mastercard accounts associated with one Apple ID.
Participant (Authorized User) accounts are similar but each card is associated with separate Apple IDs.
