Amsterdam is known as one of the most expensive cities to visit in the world. It's not a secret, but how much does a trip really cost?
I have broken down the cost of accommodations, transport, museums, tours, and food and drink, so that you can compare and pick what suits your needs.

The prices and rates are broken down, displayed in USD so that you know how what to expect.
I have created table overviews with per day rates for accommodation types, fixed transport, museum, and activities rates and average food and drink price.
The prices are an approximate all-year average for all accommodations.
That means the cost of things is higher in the peak season and lower in the lowest season, but the margin isn't that high.
All other rates are fixed, but be aware that tour and museum rates can turn out pricier if you pick special tours etc.
Accommodation Cost
The rates are calculated as a yearly average for 2 adults per night.
Accommodation Type, per Night for 2 adults | Price |
Mid-Range Hotel Room | $300-$400 |
Luxury Hotel Room | $400-$4900 |
Budget Hotel Room | $200-$300 |
Mid-Range Vacation Rentals (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.) | $170-$300 |
Luxury Vacation Rentals | $300-$1200 |
Budget Vacation Rentals | $120-$170 |
Hostels | $80-$160 |
City Tax | 12.5% extra to the accommodation price |
Transportation
Getting around in Amsterdam is fairly easy thanks to the public transportation network. This includes the metro, tram, bus, ferries, and train connections.
The GVB Tickets are only valid on the local metro, trams, and buses in Amsterdam and not on the regional buses and trains (basically buses and trains leading out of the city).
With the Amsterdam Travel Ticket, you can travel via public network from Amsterdam Schiphol airport to downtown. This ticket includes local tram, metros, and ferries.
The Amsterdam and Region Travel Ticket includes extends your range. With this ticket, you can travel to nearby towns such as Haarlem, Zaanse Schans and other places in the region. This ticket includes public transport travel within Amsterdam.
