What happened to Stadium Super Trucks? ›

Following the series' return, the trucks' identity in the country became known as the Boost Mobile Super Trucks. As part of the new branding, starting in 2020, SST split into American and Australian championships called the Speed Energy Stadium Super Trucks and Boost Mobile Super Trucks, respectively.

Their appearance loosely resembles that of full scale trophy trucks and short-course trucks. The primary difference is that the tires and suspension components extend far outboard of the body, similar to open wheel cars.

The bodies are fiberglass, and the trucks weigh in at about 2,800 pounds, and max out around 150 miles per hour. While an IndyCar can cost upward of $1 million, the Super Trucks run about $300,000, Gordon said.

Its unique specifications are something that has not been seen in off-road racing since the Mickey Thompson off-road era. Sitting on 35” DOT approved tires; the truck features a wheel-base of 104” with a stance only 71” wide.

Although any truck that meets the safety standards can race the trophy truck class, they, for the most part, feature long travel suspensions and high power (800hp+) engines. They are intended for desert racing only, and are not street legal.

Vehicles must have a production appearing Truck or Sports Utility (SUV) body. Two-wheel, four-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles allowed. Gasoline and diesel engines with unlimited displacement allowed and may be either normally aspirated or forced induction. Electric powered vehicles are allowed in this class.
