How many people fail the police academy? ›

During the study period, data were available for 724 recruits from 15 participating police academies. The overall graduation rate was 91%, with 63 recruits not graduating.

Academy students are subject to various written, skill, exercise, and scenario-based tests. Students must also participate in a rigorous physical conditioning program which culminates in a Work Sample Test Battery (physical ability test) at the end of the academy.

Is the Police Math Test Hard? The math portion of the police exam can be difficult if you come unprepared. As you may remember from high school, just memorizing the answers is not enough, you must also understand the methodology. And that's where most applicants find it hard.

ACADEMY PHYSICAL TRAINING

Candidates should use this Pre-Academy Fitness Guide to be prepared for the physical demands of the academy. After the warm up, recruits participate in a 2-5 mile run that starts at 10 minutes per mile and increases to 8 minutes per mile (end of academy).

Regular runs are a great way to build up your heart lung capacity and your leg muscles. Try a mix of: Steady running (warm up 5 mins, followed by 15-20 mins of running at a steady pace, then a cool down). Interval training (warm up 5 mins, 30 secs hard sprint + 30 secs walking x 10, cool down).

Is basic training harder than police academy? ›

Is it just as hard? For most people, military basic training will be more challenging than the police academy. That said, consider that police academies vary considerably in the way they are run and structured. Military basic training is a “total institution,” where every facet of the participant's life is controlled.

Public scrutiny, the need for quick decisions, long hours, lack of resources, and the balance between authority and empathy add to the challenge. Despite these difficulties, many officers remain dedicated to their mission, driven by a strong sense of duty and commitment to their communities.
