Importing configuration from main to backup switch. (2024)

Hello

I need help, i backuped the configuration of me main switch to .txt file be "Dowloand\Backup Configuration" and i have problem with importing this file to new switch. Can someone write me what should i do if i want to import this file? The switch is Cisco SG300-28.

The easiest method is to copy the contents of the text file back into the Global Config mode of your switch. I've copied the instructions with the required commands below. More can be found at the link at the bottom including ways to setup a TFTP server to backup and restore configurations.

RESTORE A CONFIGURATION

1. Connect to the switch/router that needs the configuration.

2. Open the config.txt file.

3. Highlight the entire contents of the config.txt file.

   You can do this by dragging the cursor from before the first character to after the last character in the file while holding down the left mouse button. Alternatively, if you use Notepad, you can chooseEdit > Select Allfrom the menu.

4. Copy the selected text to the Windows clipboard.

   You can either chooseEdit > Copyfrom the text editor menu, or hold down theCTRLkey and simultaneously press theCkey in order to perform the copy.

5. Switch to the HyperTerminal window, and issue theconfigure terminalcommand at theRouter#prompt. Then pressEnter.

6. Paste the configuration file into the router by selectingEdit > Paste to Hoston the HyperTerminal menu.

7. After the configuration has finished pasting and the router brings you back to the configuration prompt, issue thecopy running-config startup-configcommand in order to write the configuration into memory.

8. Issue theexitcommand in order to return to theRouter#prompt.

Hello Iwegorzewski,

first of all I would check the following things:

1. firmware and boot code of the switches are the same when the configuration is downloaded

2. both switches are set to the same layer 3 or layer 2 mode

3. try with tftp and http

4. pay attention to the error when testing
